Title: | Estudo das interacções entre a porfirina 5,10,15,20- tetrakis(N-metilpiridinium-4-il) tetraiodo e surfactantes aniónicos | Authors: | Almeida, Cláudio Manuel Rodrigues de | Orientador: | Valente, Artur José Monteiro | Issue Date: | Jul-2013 | Place of publication or event: | Coimbra | Abstract: | O conhecimento do mecanismo e das diferentes propriedades envolvidas nas
eléctrica, potenciometria (pH), turbidimetria e espectrofotometria molecular.
The knowledge on the mechanisms and on the different properties involved in the interactions between cationic porphyrins and anionic surfactants is fundamental for areas usimg these two species, such as catalysis and detergency, respectively, and can contributes for process optimization or even lead to new applications. In this work, we have studied the effect of different anionic surfactants on the behavior of tetracationic 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(N-metylpyridinium-4-yl) porphyrin tetraiodide (TMePyP) in aqueous solution. Two different types of anionic surfactants were used: a sulfate (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)), and a dianionic bolaform surfactant, (1,12-bis (sodium dodecyl sulfate) (bisSDS)). The systems were studied using different experimental techniques, such as electrical conductivity, potentiometry (pH), turbidity and molecular spectrophotometry. As a consequence of surfactant-porphyrin interaction a solid complex is formed; this one characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). A thermodynamic study of the micellization process of sodium dodecyl sulfate in the presence of TMePyP was carried out in order to assess the effect of the latter on the micellization of SDS, in aqueous solution. With this study it is expected to contribute for a better knowledge of parameters involved in the interaction between anionic surfactants and TMePyP. |
