Estratégias para o combate à desinformação: o papel da Biblioteca Pública

Abstract

The growing transformation in the technological universe has raised several questions regarding the constant updating of individuals and professionals in relation to accessing and sharing content in the Digital Age and, at the same time, it has created an obstacle to consulting and disseminating reliable information - disinformation. The main objective of this study is to understand the problem of disinformation nowadays. In order to fulfil this objective, specific objectives were defined to address the problems arising from misinformation and the role of the Public Library in achieving access to and sharing of information in the Digital Age. The method adopted to achieve these objectives was the literature review. The research was mostly carried out in Google Scholar, the Discovery Service of the University of Coimbra, b-on and RCAAP. This research was surveyed from December 2020, ending in December 2021. This study, according to its theoretical character, intends to initially explore the historical path of disinformation and additionally focus on the exacerbated growth of information, the problem of immediacy for the quality of content and little control of what is and is not checked online, these being some of the major problems to be solved in this century dominated by ICTs. In this context, the Public Library has stood out as an institution that intends to overcome the issues of disinformation, such as: the little mastery of ICTs overcome by the possibility of training users and professionals through information/technology courses, information/digital illiteracy replaced by information and digital literacy and innovative solutions for the future, as are the examples of the Portuguese Digital Public Library and The Human Library. It is concluded that there is a long way to go regarding digital and information literacies and it is highlighted the role that the public library can or should play to train more informed and intervening citizens in society.

A transformação crescente no universo tecnológico tem suscitado diversas questões no que concerne a atualização constante dos indivíduos e profissionais face ao acesso e partilha de conteúdos na Era Digital e, simultaneamente, fez surgir um entrave à consulta e disseminação de informação fidedigna – a desinformação. O principal objetivo deste estudo é compreender o problema da desinformação na atualidade. Para cumprir este objetivo foram definidos como objetivos específicos a abordagem aos problemas surgidos da desinformação e o papel da Biblioteca Pública para o alcance do acesso e partilha de informação na Era Digital. O método adotado para alcançar estes objetivos foi a revisão de literatura. A pesquisa foi realizada, maioritariamente, no Google Scholar, no Serviço de Descoberta da Universidade de Coimbra, na b-on e no RCAAP. Esta investigação foi levantada a partir de dezembro de 2020, terminando em dezembro de 2021. Este estudo, segundo o seu carácter teórico, pretende inicialmente explorar o caminho histórico da desinformação e adicionalmente incidir sobre o crescimento exacerbado da informação, o problema do imediatismo para a qualidade do conteúdo e o pouco controlo do que é e não é verificado online, sendo estes uns dos maiores problemas a serem resolvido neste século dominado pelas TICs. Neste contexto, a Biblioteca Pública tem-se destacado como uma instituição que pretende ultrapassar as questões da desinformação, tais como: o pouco domínio das TIC ultrapassado pela possibilidade de formar utilizadores e profissionais através de cursos de informação/tecnologia, o analfabetismo informativo/digital substituído por informação e literacia digital e soluções inovadoras para o futuro, como são os exemplos da Biblioteca Pública Digital Portuguesa e a The Human Library. Conclui-se que existe um longo caminho a ser percorrido no que diz respeito às literacias digital e da informação e destaca-se o papel que a biblioteca pública pode ou deve desempenhar para formar cidadãos mais informados e interventivos na sociedade.
