(Re)Pensar o antigo claustro da Manga Projeto de Valorização e Reabilitação do Mosteiro de Santa Cruz e Área Envolvente

Abstract

A seguinte dissertação propõe uma análise acerca do tema Construir no Construído, tendo como caso de estudo o mosteiro de Santa Cruz de Coimbra, monumento e panteão nacional, fundado no séc. XII. O edifício em estudo é o resultado de um somatório de intervenções de diferentes épocas, tornando-se impercetível a sua leitura como um todo. Muitos dos edifícios que o envolvem foram construídos com o intuído de lhe servir funções de apoio e, atualmente, nenhum destes apresenta qualquer relação com o mosteiro. Ao longo do tempo o seu precioso espólio foi posto em causa, parte das peças foram perdidas ou transferidas para outras instalações.O trabalho foca-se no desenho de um novo museu e centro interpretativo, um exercício onde a construção nova complementa ideias de reabilitação. O espaço do jardim e fonte da Manga, pertencentes ao antigo claustro da Manga, é aquele que se pretende complementar com a nova construção que será projetada a partir da análise dos princípios e gestos que o desenhavam. A proposta garante uma preservação e exposição adequada das diferentes peças do espólio. O edifício novo procura complementar a pré-existência, dotando o espaço de funções atuais que fomentem o motivo de visita e permanência. Pretende-se também intervir nos edifícios que antes pertenciam ao mosteiro, estabelecendo uma harmonia entre passado e presente, e dando resposta a partir daquilo que existia e que permanece atualmente, devolvendo assim uma leitura global do conjunto ao qual mosteiro de Santa Cruz pertencia.Pretendem-se justificar as opções de projeto a partir da pesquisa bibliográfica, onde é analisado o desenvolvimento construtivo e histórico do mosteiro de Santa Cruz e da respetiva área envolvente, também ela dotada vestígios históricos importantes. Este método de trabalho procura gerar decisões informadas e fundamentadas no momento em que se sugerem as propostas e ideias de projeto.

The following dissertation proposes an analysis of the subject Building on the Built, having as the case study the monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra, monument and national pantheon, founded in the 12th century.The building being studied is the result of a sum of interventions from different periods, making it impossible to be read as a whole. Many of the buildings that surround it were built with the intention of serving support functions and, currently, none of these have any relationship with the monastery. Over time its precious assets were questioned, some of the pieces were lost or transferred to other facilities.The work focuses on the design of a new museum and interpretive centre, an exercise where new construction complements rehabilitation ideas. The Manga garden and fountain space, belonging to the former Manga cloister, is the one that is intended to be complemented with the new construction that will be designed based on the analysis of the principles and gestures that designed it. The proposal guarantees a proper preservation and exhibition of the different pieces of the estate. The new building seeks to complement the pre-existing one, providing a space with modern functionalities that encourage visiting and stay. It is also intended to intervene in the buildings that previously belonged to the monastery, establishing harmony between past and present, giving answers from what existed and what remains today, thus providing a global reading of the set to which the monastery of Santa Cruz once belonged.The aim is to justify the design options based on bibliographical research, which analyzes the constructive and historical development of the monastery of Santa Cruz and its surrounding area, which also has important historical remains. This working method seeks to generate informed and reasoned decisions regarding the project proposals and ideas.
