Quinta do Marujal, Projeto de Intervenção Sobre uma Ruína no Baixo Mondego

Abstract

Tendo como suporte o tema “Projetos de intervenção sobre o património construído”, o presente trabalho traduz-se na elaboração de um exercício prático de arquitetura para uma intervenção na Quinta do Marujal.Esta quinta da localidade do Marujal inclui um solar renascentista do século XVI, situado na paisagem dos campos agrícolas do baixo mondego, no concelho de Montemor-o-Velho. Este imóvel, que chegou a pertencer ao Mosteiro de Santa Cruz e mais tarde à Universidade de Coimbra, pensa-se que tenha sido projetado por Diogo de Castilho, tornando-se assim numa quinta pensada e concretizada por um dos arquitetos mais importantes da história da cidade de Coimbra. A quinta, ao longo dos anos, foi perdendo a sua função o que levou ao seu abandono, e à sua atual realidade devoluta, em avançado estado de degradação.Neste sentido, o trabalho tem como desígnio, um pensamento crítico de intervenção sobre a Quinta do Marujal, onde são estabelecidas estratégias de preservação diferenciadas, capazes de responder a novas necessidades, a fim de dignificar e recuperar o carácter funcional e habitável da quinta renascentista.Esta necessidade de intervir no património construído levanta naturalmente questões sobre os modelos e os conceitos de intervenção. Questões como, o que faz sentido intervir? O que manter? O que demolir? O que adicionar? São incontornáveis no âmbito da reabilitação, cabendo ao arquiteto ter a capacidade e a sensibilidade de perceber a viabilidade das suas intenções, de maneira que não descaracterize o próprio edifício. Desta forma, surge o tema da ruína, um dos temas que se pretende abordar e trabalhar neste projeto, assim como a necessidade de ampliar e construir novos elementos que permitam o bom funcionamento de um novo programa, e que ao mesmo tempo, evidenciem uma dualidade temporal entre a ruína da construção renascentista com o edificado novo contemporâneo.

Supported by the theme “Intervention projects on the built heritage”, this work translates into the elaboration of a practical architectural exercise for an intervention at Quinta do Marujal.This farm in the town of Marujal includes a 16th century Renaissance manor house, located in the landscape of the agricultural fields of Baixo Mondego, in the municipality of Montemor-o-Velho. This property, which once belonged to the Santa Cruz Monastery and later to the University of Coimbra, is thought to have been designed by Diogo de Castilho, thus becoming a farm designed and implemented by one of the most important architects in the history of the city. city ​​of Coimbra. The farm, over the years, lost its function, which led to its abandonment, and to its current derelict reality, in an advanced state of degradation.In this sense, the work aims at a critical intervention thinking about Quinta do Marujal, where differentiated preservation strategies are established, capable of responding to new needs, in order to dignify and recover the functional and habitable character of the Renaissance farm.This need to intervene in the built heritage naturally raises questions about intervention models and concepts. Questions like, what makes sense to intervene? What to keep? What to demolish? What to add? They are unavoidable in the scope of rehabilitation, and it is up to the architect to have the capacity and sensitivity to perceive the viability of their intentions, so that they do not detract from the building itself.Thus, the theme of ruin arises, one of the themes that we intend to address and work on in this project, as well as the need to expand and build new elements that allow for the smooth operation of a new program, and that at the same time, show a duality temporal between the ruin of the Renaissance construction and the new contemporary building.
