Relatórios de Estágio e Monografia intitulada “Propriedades dos Cogumelos na Terapêutica Adjuvante do Cancro: Alvos e Eficácia”

Abstract

The Master's Thesis carried out under the Integrated Master's in Pharmaceutical Sciences is endowed with three main areas: Internship Report in Community Pharmacy, Internship Report in Pharmaceutical Industry and Monograph entitled "Properties of Mushrooms in the Adjuvant Treatment of Cancer: Targets and Efficacy".The Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF) of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra offers the opportunity to undertake a curricular internship in the last year of academic training, with the Community Pharmacy area being mandatory. This opportunity is an asset for the student as it allows the first contact with the professional reality and provides the consolidation of acquired theoretical knowledge and learning of new skills inherent to the profession of pharmacist in this sector. In this context, I joined the Pharmacy Saúde de Lavos, located in Figueira da Foz, where I acquired knowledge about the functioning of the pharmacy as well as experienced the closest contact between the pharmacist and the user. In addition to the usual area of Community Pharmacy, I had the opportunity to do an internship in another area, more specifically in Pharmaceutical Industry, which allowed me to broaden my knowledge and explore alternative aspects of the pharmaceutical domain. Therefore, I joined the Pharmilab team, a consultant specialized in the area of cosmetics, medical devices, food supplements and biocides, where I incorporated the laboratory environment, with a focus on Quality Control. These reports will be presented in the form of SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), with the main purpose of portraying all activities as an intern based on the criteria of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats experienced during the internships.The purpose of this monograph is to provide an overview of the fundamentals of cancer and to highlight, in turn, breast cancer and cervical cancer, the incidence and prevalence of cancer today, as well as existing therapies and its disadvantages. It is also intended to address the constitution and composition of mushrooms, emphasize their potential role in the adjuvant treatment of cancer, highlighting their antitumor and immunomodulatory properties, as well as highlighting the key targets that contribute to these characteristics. The approach to scientific evidence (in vitro, in vivo and clinical trials) and pharmacological efficacy are also discussed. Finally, the products sold in Portugal are discussed.

A Tese de Mestrado realizada no âmbito do Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas é dotada de três áreas principais: Relatório de Estágio em Farmácia Comunitária, Relatório de Estágio em Indústria Farmacêutica e Monografia intitulada “Propriedades dos Cogumelos no Tratamento Adjuvante do Cancro: Alvos e Eficácia”.O Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas (MICF) da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra disponibiliza no último ano de formação académica a oportunidade de realizar um estágio curricular, sendo obrigatório a área de Farmácia Comunitária. Esta oportunidade é uma mais-valia para o estudante pois permite o primeiro contacto com a realidade profissional e proporciona a consolidação dos conhecimentos teóricos adquiridos e aprendizagem de novas competências inerentes à profissão do farmacêutico neste setor. Neste âmbito, ingressei na Farmácia Saúde de Lavos, localizada na Figueira da Foz, onde adquiri conhecimentos acerca do funcionamento da farmácia bem como experienciei o contacto mais próximo do farmacêutico em relação ao utente. Para além da habitual área da Farmácia Comunitária, tive a oportunidade de realizar um estágio numa outra área, mais especificamente em Indústria Farmacêutica, o que me permitiu alargar conhecimentos e explorar vertentes alternativas do domínio farmacêutico. Assim sendo, integrei a equipa da Pharmilab, uma consultora especializada na área dos cosméticos, dispositivos médicos, suplementos alimentares e biocidas, onde incorporei o ambiente laboratorial, com foco no Controlo da Qualidade. Os presentes relatórios serão apresentados sob a forma de análise SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), tendo como finalidade principal, retratar todas as atividades enquanto estagiária com base nos critérios pontos fortes, pontos fracos, oportunidades e ameaças experienciados no decorrer dos estágios.A elaboração da presente monografia tem por objetivo fornecer uma visão geral sobre os fundamentos do cancro e destacar, por sua vez, o cancro da mama e o cancro do colo do útero, a incidência e a prevalência do cancro na atualidade, assim como as terapêuticas existentes e suas desvantagens. Pretende-se, também, abordar a constituição e composição dos cogumelos, dar ênfase ao seu potencial papel no tratamento adjuvante do cancro, dando realce às suas propriedades antitumorais e imunomoduladoras, bem como realçar os alvos-chave que contribuem para essas características. A abordagem de evidências científicas (in vitro, in vivo e ensaios clínicos) e a eficácia farmacológica são igualmente discutidas. Por fim, são abordados os produtos comercializados em Portugal.
