A CASA DE CIMA - Projecto de reabilitação em Aguiar da Beira

Abstract

A importância conferida à componente civil da arquitectura vernacular em Portugal é demasiado diminuta para o espólio de exemplos culturalmente relevantes que encontramos de norte a sul do país. A potencial contribuição que poderá resultar do estudo mais aprofundado de um caso em concreto foi o que moveu o desenvolvimento da presente dissertação, tendo como objectivo final uma proposta de intervenção. A construção da Casa de Cima, localizada em Aguiar da Beira, numa zona rural do Norte Interior, data do século XVIII. Este edifício acaba por ser uma síntese de elementos populares e eruditos, que denunciam uma evolução histórica que importa perceber para a sua melhor compreensão. É pela análise desses elementos que começa esta jornada, passando pelo estudo do seu estado actual, que permite uma compreensão absoluta desta construção, reflectindo-se numa proposta de intervenção informada e ponderada. O que se propõe para o edifício é uma requalificação, quer do espaço interior quer do exterior, referente tanto à casa principal como às infra-estruturas pertencentes à propriedade, umas fruto da recuperação do pré-existente, outras totalmente novas, mas devidamente integradas no desenho. O conjunto reabilitado terá a nova função de turismo rural, uma escolha justificada não só pelas suas dimensões, mas também pela urgente necessidade local de dinamização cultural e turística. O estudo que aqui se desenvolve segue a premissa de que, na arquitectura, assim como na vida, é através de um melhor entendimento do passado que conseguimos compreender o que nos rodeia no presente, e só deste modo teremos condições para propor soluções relevantes para o futuro.

The lack of importance given to the civil component of vernacular architecture in Portugal is surprising, considering the wide range of culturally relevant examples found throughout the territory. The potential contribution that could result from the analysis of a specific case study was the main motivator for the development of this thesis, whose final purpose is an intervention proposal. “Casa de Cima”, which is located in Aguiar da Beira, a town in the North region of the country, dates back to the 18th century, but this particular building presents itself as a summary of both popular and erudite elements, that give away a historical evolution that is determinant for its better understanding. It’s by analysing these elements that this journey begins, studying the house’s current state, which will allow an absolute knowledge of the building, culminating in an informed and well thought out project. We suggest the requalification of external and internal spaces, both concerning the main house and the rest of the infrastructures belonging to the property, some of them rehabilitations of pre-existing constructions, others newly built into the design of the overall setting. The complex will house a new touristic equipment called “rural tourism”, a choice justifiable not only by the size of the location, but also by the urgent need of local cultural promotion of the region. The study developed here follows the premise that, in architecture, as in life itself, it is through a better understanding of the past that we can fully comprehend our present surroundings, and that this is the only way we will be able to find relevant solutions for the future.
