Mudança genolexical: teoria e realidade

Abstract

As teorias e as tipologias de mudança necessitam de ser validadas pelos dados históricos das alterações efectivamente ocorridas. As teorias sequencialistas sobre mudança têm dificuldade em contemplar a enorme rede factores que dominam as alterações de valores das unidades linguísticas. A análise das mudanças semânticas no uso de -eir- requer evidencia a necessidade de adoptar um quadro teórico que não dicotomize lexicalização e gramaticalização, mas que incorpore fenómenos de subjectivização e de pragmatização, até porque estes são concomitantes com os demais.

Theories and typologies of change need to be supported and validated by historical evidence which can establish the changes that effectively occurred. Sequentialist theories of change encounter difficulties in accommodating the vast number of factors that determine the changes suffered by the value of linguistic units. An analysis of the semantic changes suffered by -eir- reveals the need for a theoretical framework which does not dichotomize lexicalization and grammaticalization, but which takes into account factors such as subjectivization and pragmatization, which after all coexist with the other ones.
