Background: Anxiety is a physiological state, which can be accompanied by evident manifestations, that allows the individual to be alert. This can become pathological if excessive and continuous and thus become limiting in the lives of the people who experience it. On one hand, there seems to be a connection between anxiety and socioeconomic factors, the cause of which has not yet been totally established. On the other hand, the connection between anxiety and cardiovascular diseases or cardiovascular risk factors is still not completely clear. Objective: Studying, in a group of selected patients, the connection between anxiety symptoms and cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular disease and how they influence each other. The second objective is to relate anxiety with socioeconomic factors such as gender, marital status, religion, income, education level, employment status. Methods: Transversal observational study, with a sample of 179 questionnaires made through cell phone contact or via email, to patients previously selected by their attending physician, from several primary care units, with data collection between May 2020 and January 2021, after explaining the objective and the purpose of the study to the participant and after obtaining consent for their participation. The Anxiety scale (HADS-A) was applied and in the data analysis, the descriptive analysis was carried out first and, followed by an inferential analysis using non-parametric tests such as the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: Sample of 179 participants, 53.1% female, average age 51.1 ± 22.02 years old, 50.8% married or married in fact and the majority with high school or university education (55.1%) and working full time (35.8%). It was noticed that there is no statistically significant difference in the level of anxiety between people who have and who do not have cardiovascular disease (p = 0.59) neither in people with and without cardiovascular risk factors (p = 0.37). Regarding socioeconomic factors, it was noticed that there was a significantly higher level of anxiety in males.Discussion and Conclusion: In the study carried out, it was concluded that it is probable that there are other factors that are more related to anxiety than cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular risk factors, since there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. These results may be due to coping strategies, already used and incorporated by the participants, to reduce their anxiety levels. Regarding socioeconomic factors, there were also no significant differences in the participants' anxiety level except in the gender, meaning that they may not be influencers of anxiety or may have been influenced by the size of the sample. The way the questionnaires were applied and a convenience sample were also considered limitations of this study and the collection of cardiovascular diseases and risk factors being self-reporting.
