The composite slabs system, consisting of the combination of the properties of a profiled steel sheeting cooperating with concrete, has been gaining worldwide a leading place compared to existing alternatives on the market for slabs of reinforced concrete. The growing adoption of the solution by the designers due to the set of advantages are such as: quick installation, reduced thicknesses of the slabs and the consequent decrease in the self-weight of the structures, no formwork and environmental benefits because it is a fully recyclable material (steel). The effect that the fire action has on the structures need a lot of attention and study by researchers. The behaviour of the various structural elements such as slabs, beams and columns, and the reduction of the residual capacity of its strength after reaching elevated temperatures may bring serious consequences. Thus, to ensure the tightness and insulation of buildings and prevent its collapse, the current regulations for design of structural fire safety of composite structures - EN 1994-1-2 (Eurocode 4, Part 1-2) - provides requirements and demands on the performance of composite structures. The recommended methodology presents a set of simple rules based on the fire resistance of the various elements of the building, valid for standard fire exposure. The work to be developed along this dissertation includes the study of the behaviour and check the fire resistance of composite slabs with two different types of profiled steel sheeting, an existing one with a height of 60 mm and another with 120 mm, to be developed in parallel with this investigation. Additionally, it will be evaluated the increase in fire resistance for these two cases by means of the introduction of longitudinal rebars on the ribs. Thus, this dissertation includes an initial literature review to allow a better understanding of the behaviour of composite slabs exposed to elevated temperatures. Then, a study and verification of the behaviour under fire conditions of different configurations will be done, using the methodologies covered by the regulation, with the ultimate goal to achieve in the form of direct calculation tables the fire resistance time, according to the level of acting load.pt
