Currently, the construction of lightweight steel, also called Light Steel Framing (LSF), starts to gain momentum in residential buildings not only across Europe but also in Portugal. In these buildings with steel structure, thermal bridges caused by the high conductivity of the steel, need further attention in order to be mitigated as this is a material with poorer thermal characteristics when compared to more traditional materials such as concrete or brick. Heat losses arising from thermal bridges may represent a significant portion of the energy consumed for heating (30%) at the point that these may be greater than the benefits derived from the use of solar thermal collectors for domestic hot water. Throughout this thesis, some minimization strategies of thermal bridges in buildings with light steel structure consisting of cold the shaped profiles were studied. In addition to reviewing the state of the art about this issue, it was analyzed the value of heat transfer coefficient of each element, checking up the variation of this thermal parameter after the implementation of each one of these strategies. This analysis was done with the aid of a calculation software for Finite Element, "THERM", which was also subject to a validation throughout this work. This work managed to obtain improvements in the thermal behaviour of a wall in LSF structure, with the thickness of insulation and his position revealing to be the most preponderant factors to obtain improvements in the thermal parameters. Furthermore, it was managed to understand which were the errors of the two calculation methods of U-value, depending on the type of structure studied.pt
