O guião na tradução para legendagem: uso, qualidade, utilidade e influência

Abstract

Este relatório de estágio descreve a experiência prática adquirida no estágio curricular na empresa de produção audiovisual Buggin Media, entre os meses de setembro e dezembro de 2020, no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução da Faculdade de Letras de Coimbra. Face ao problema constante de informação em falta ou errada nos guiões dos projetos realizados durante o estágio, o relatório procura analisar o uso do guião na tradução para legendagem, a sua utilidade, a qualidade com que é fornecido e de que forma pode influenciar o processo de tradução e o seu produto final. Através de um questionário a tradutores de audiovisual que fazem tradução interlinguística para português europeu, foram reunidos dados sobre o fornecimento do guião, de acordo com o tipo de cliente do tradutor (internacional ou nacional), e o conteúdo e qualidade que o documento apresenta. Os tradutores foram ainda questionados sobre o acesso a material de apoio, especificamente o material audiovisual, e as suas preferências em relação ao conteúdo e uso do guião. Os resultados mostram que os tradutores usam o guião, quando têm acesso a um, admitindo, no entanto, já ter prescindido do seu uso quando a qualidade era má. É possível ainda tirar conclusões sobre a preferência dos tradutores por elementos informativos, ao invés de técnicos, no guião, destacando a transcrição palavra a palavra do diálogo e as notas relacionadas com a coerência ou continuidade do programa como os elementos mais úteis. A maioria admitiu ainda que a qualidade do guião influenciava o processo de tradução e até mesmo o produto final. São ainda feitas algumas recomendações de melhoria do guião com base nestes resultados e na análise da literatura crítica. Espera-se que os resultados do inquérito traduzam a prática atual do uso de guião no mercado português da legendagem interlinguística e que os temas apresentados possam ser explorados mais aprofundadamente no futuro.

This report describes the experience gained during the internship at the audiovisual production company Buggin Media, between September and December 2020, as part of the Master's in Translation curriculum at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra. Given the constant problem of missing or wrong information in the scripts of the projects carried out during the internship, this report aims to analyse the use of the script, particularly the use of dialogue lists and/or templates, in subtitling. It will also analyse the usefulness and the quality with which the script is provided and how it can influence the translation process and its final product. Through a survey aimed at audiovisual translators who perform interlingual subtitling into European Portuguese, it was possible to gather data on the provision of the script, according to the type of client of the translator (international or national), and the content and quality of the document. Translators were also asked about access to supporting material, namely audiovisual material, and their preferences regarding the content and use of the script. The results show that translators use the script when they have access to one; however, they admit having already dismissed the use of this document due to its poor quality. Conclusions can also be drawn about translators' preference for informative rather than technical elements in the script, with word-for-word transcriptions of dialogue and notes on the coherence or continuity of the programme being considered the most useful elements. Most of the respondents also admitted that the quality of the script influenced the translation process and even the final product.Some recommendations for improving the script are also made according to the survey results and the critical literature review. It is expected that the survey results reflect the current practices of script use in the Portuguese subtitling translation market, and that the topics presented can be explored further in future research.
