A tradução técnica, o tradutor técnico e os problemas da tradução de manuais de instruções

Abstract

This report aims to summarise and analyse the activities carried out during an internship at JABA-Translations, a company that provides technical translation services. Since technical translation tasks were carried out, namely the translation of instruction manuals from German into Portuguese, this report will focus on technical translation, the technical translator, the problems in translating instruction manuals in this language pair and the corresponding resolutions.The report is divided into 5 parts: the first part will focus on the internship and the company where the internship took place; the second part will refer exclusively to technical translation and its characteristics through a functionalist approach; the third part will focus on the translator in the digital age, particularly the technical translator, and on the tools and knowledge required for this professional activity; and the fourth part will analyse the translation tasks of instruction manuals carried out during the internship and the respective translation problems. The last part of this report will present the final remarks about the conjunction between the practical component of the internship and the theoretical component of the research for the elaboration of this report.This report aims not only to contribute to the study of translation of technical documentation, but also to analyse the different problems inherent to the translation of instruction manuals and the translation processes adopted to solve them.

O presente relatório tem por objetivo sintetizar e analisar as atividades desenvolvidas durante o estágio curricular na empresa JABA-Translations, que presta serviços de tradução técnica. Uma vez que foram realizadas tarefas de tradução de textos técnicos, nomeadamente a tradução de manuais de instruções do alemão para o português, este relatório incidirá sobre a tradução técnica, o tradutor técnico, os problemas da tradução de manuais de instruções neste par de línguas e as respetivas resoluções.O relatório está dividido em 5 partes: a primeira parte focar-se-á no estágio curricular e na entidade de acolhimento; a segunda parte referir-se-á exclusivamente à tradução técnica e às suas características através de uma perspetiva funcionalista; a terceira parte debruçar-se-á sobre o tradutor da era digital, em particular o tradutor técnico, e nas ferramentas e conhecimentos necessários para esta atividade profissional; e a quarta parte analisará as tarefas de tradução de manuais de instruções realizados durante o estágio e os respetivos problemas de tradução. A última parte deste relatório abordará as considerações finais sobre a conjunção da componente prática do estágio curricular e da componente teórica da pesquisa para a elaboração do relatório.O presente relatório pretende não só contribuir para o estudo da tradução de documentação técnica, mas também analisar os diferentes problemas inerentes à tradução de manuais de instruções e os processos tradutórios adotados na sua resolução.
