Migrações lifestyle no Algarve: uma análise geográfica do concelho de Monchique

Abstract

No mundo global em que vivemos, as migrações apresentam um papel preponderante nas dinâmicas populacionais, nas economias dos vários países e no desenvolvimento dos territórios. Estes movimentos, tiveram um forte impulso com o processo de globalização, na medida que houve maior facilidade de circulação entre os países, tanto de pessoas, como bens e serviços. A mobilidade humana, foi igualmente facilitada pelo desenvolvimento dos transportes e dos meios de comunicação, juntamente com alterações ao nível político, cultural e social.A imigração em Portugal, nos últimos 30 anos sofreu um aumento significativo, referindo Castro (2016:12), em 1960, os estrangeiros representavam 3% do total de população. Na década de 70, derivado a um conjunto de fatores, houve um crescimento exponencial de imigrantes. Correspondiam essencialmente, aos retornados das ex-colónias. Na década de 90, os fluxos imigratórios continuam a ser uma constante, mas a um ritmo mais lento em comparação com a década de 80. O saldo migratório tornou-se positivo, com os números da imigração a ultrapassarem os da emigração. Durante a viragem do século, assistiu-se a uma nova vaga de imigração, oriunda da Europa de Leste, apesar de serem países com pouca afinidade linguística e cultural com Portugal, desde logo engrossaram o contingente de estrangeiros no território nacional. No início do século XXI, houve o surgimento das migrações de estilo de vida. Os migrantes que as praticavam vinham em busca de um estilo totalmente diferente daquele que tinham nos países de origem. No território nacional, fixaram-se em áreas rurais marcadas pelo despovoamento. Sendo as migrações de estilo de vida, o tema principal desta dissertação, definiu-se como objetivo principal - compreender a evolução, dinâmica e impacto das Lifestyle Migrations no território em estudo. Para dar resposta a esse objetivo, procedeu-se a um estudo de caso no concelho de Monchique, junto da população estrangeira residente.

In the global world that we live migration plays a major role in population dynamics, in the economies of several countries and in the development of territories. These movements had a strong impetus with the globalization process as there has greater ease of movement between countries, both of people, as well as goods and services.Human mobility has also been facilited by the development of transport and the media, along with changes at the political , cultural and social level.Immigration in Portugal, over the last 30 years increased significantly, reference by Castro (2016:12), 1960, foreigners represented 3% of the total population. In the 70s, due to a set of factores, there was an exponential increase of immigrants. They corresponded essentially to the returnees from the former colonies . In the 1990s, migratory flows continued to be constant, but at a slower pace compared to the 1980s. The migratory balance became positive, with immigration numbers surpassing those of emigration. During the turn of the century , there was a new wave of immigration, coming from Eastern Europe, despite being countries with little linguistic and cultural affinity with Portugal, since then, the number of foreigners in the national territory increased. At the beginning of the 21st century, lifestyle migrations emerged. The migrants comming were searching for a completely different lifestyle from the one that they had in theire country. In the national territory, they settled in rural areas marked by depopulation. Being the lifestyle migrations the main theme of this dissertation, the main goal was to understand the evolution, the dynamics and the impact of lifestyle migrations in the territory in study. To answer at these goal a study case was carried out in the municipality of Monchique, with the resident foreingn population.
