Dante Alighieri na música - A relação entre literatura e música em "Eine Symphonie zu Dante’s Divina Commedia" de Franz Liszt

Abstract

Dante Alighieri na música é um estudo que pretende analisar a relação que se estabelece entre literatura e música em Eine Symphonie zu Dante’s Divina Commedia (também referida como Dante-Symphonie), do compositor Franz Liszt. Este estudo, de natureza comparativa procura explorar de que modo está presente a literatura na sinfonia de Liszt, cujo título deixa transparecer a inspiração de base poética com a alusão à Commedia, de Dante Alighieri. Para tal, a presente dissertação foi dividida em quatro secções, dedicadas aos principais domínios desta relação. Primeiramente, apresenta-se uma breve súmula metodológica, que pretende mostrar o percurso dos estudos interartes até à atualidade, nomeadamente no que diz respeito à relação que se estabelece entre literatura e música, expondo ainda as principais linhas de análise de tal diálogo. De seguida, o foco recairá sobre os autores e as obras a relacionar, começando por Dante Alighieri e a Commedia, e passando posteriormente a Franz Liszt e à Dante-Symphonie. O terceiro capítulo é dedicado à análise da sinfonia sob uma perspetiva que evidencia os seus pontos de contacto com o poema e a forma como foram expressas musicalmente imagens e ideias nele evocadas. Como a música ocupa um lugar importante no poema, é também explorada a função que nele assume e, ainda, a visão do poeta sobre a música, com o objetivo de perceber as diferenças entre a música na Commedia e a música nela inspirada.Deste estudo resulta que, apesar de estarmos perante duas formas de expressão que se concretizam em meios diferentes e que são dotados de uma especificidade criativa de ordem distinta, literatura e música, o estudo da sua interrelação abre novos territórios do conhecimento.

Dante Alighieri in music is a study that seeks to understand the relationship between literature and music in Franz Liszt’s Eine Symphonie zu Dante’s Divina Commedia (also known as Dante-Symphonie). As a comparative study, it explores how literature is present in Liszt’s symphony, whose title shows the poetical inspiration: Dante Alighieri’s Commedia.To achieve this, the dissertation was dividid in four sections, dedicated to the main fields of this relationship. Firstly, a brief methodological summary, which aim is to explore the path of interarts studies until the present, namely concerning the interarts connection between literature and music, presenting the main perspectives of analysis of said connection. After that, the authors and works to relate will be brought into focus, starting with Dante Alighieri and the Commedia, followed by Franz Liszt and the Dante-Symphonie. The third chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the symphony from a perspective that highlights its connections with the poem and how the poetical ideas and images where musically expressed. Because of music’s importance in the Commedia, its function in the poem will also be explored, as well as the poet’s thoughts on music, with the aim to understand the differences between music in the Commedia and music inspired in the Commedia.What can be concluded from this study is that, despite these being two means of expression that materialize through different media and obey to distinct processes of creation, literature and music, the study of its interrelation opens new areas of knowledge.
