Vivência da sexualidade na terceira idade: a importância do relacionamento amoroso e da atividade sexual

Abstract

Devido ao aumento da esperança média de vida, a sexualidade na velhice tem vindo a receber uma maior atenção. O presente estudo tem como objetivo perceber que variáveis podem ter influência na importância que o idoso atribui ao relacionamento amoroso e à atividade sexual. A amostra é constituída por trinta participantes, dezanove do sexo feminino e onze do sexo masculino, com idades superiores a 65 anos (M=75.07, DP= 6.01). Foram utilizados os seguintes instrumentos: o Questionário Sociodemográfico, o Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA; Nasreddine et al., 2005; versão portuguesa: Freitas, Simões, Alves, & Santana, 2011; Simões et al., 2008), a Escala de Qualidade de Vida (EUROHIS-QOL-8; Power, 2003; Schmidt, Mühlan, & Power, 2006; versão portuguesa: Pereira, Melo, Gameiro, & Canavarro, 2011), a Geriatric Depression Scale-15 item (GDS-15, Sheikh and Yesavage, 1986; versão portuguesa: Apóstolo et al., 2014), o NEO-Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI; Costa & McCrae, 1995; versão portuguesa: Lima & Simões, 1997; Magalhães et al., 2014), o Questionário de Atitudes Face ao Envelhecimento (Attitudes to Ageing Questionnaire; Laidlaw, Power, Schmidt, & WHOQOL-OLD Group, 2007; versão portuguesa: Silva, 2013), a faceta Intimidade, incluída no World Health Organization Quality of Life – Old Module (WHOQOL-OLD; Power, Quinn, Schmidt, & WHOQOL-Old Group, 2005; versão portuguesa: Cruz, 2009; Vilar et al., 2010), e o Questionário de Saúde Sexual. Os resultados indicam a importância dos dados sociodemográficos, dos comportamentos sexuais e dos fatores psicológicos na valorização da sexualidade na idade avançada.

Due to the increase in average life expectancy, sexuality in old age has received greater attention. The present study aims to understand which variables may influence the importance that the elderly attach to love relationship and sexual activity. The sample consisted of thirty participants, nineteen female and eleven male, aged over 65 years (M = 75.07, SD = 6.01). The following instruments were used: the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA; Nasreddine et al., 2005; portuguese version: Freitas, Simões, Alves, & Santana, 2011; Simões et al., 2008), the Quality of Life Scale (EUROHIS-QOL-8; Power, 2003; Schmidt, Mühlan, & Power, 2006; portuguese version: Pereira, Melo, Gameiro, & Canavarro, 2011), the Geriatric Depression Scale-15 item (GDS-15, Sheikh and Yesavage, 1986; portuguese version: Apóstolo et al., 2014), the NEO-Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI; Costa & McCrae, 1995; portuguese version: Lima & Simões, 1997; Magalhães et al., 2014), the Attitudes to Aging Questionnaire (Laidlaw, Power, Schmidt, & WHOQOL-OLD Group, 2007; portuguese version: Silva, 2013), the Intimacy facet, included in the World Health Organization Quality of Life - Old Module (WHOQOL-OLD; Power, Quinn, Schmidt, & WHOQOL-Old Group, 2005; portuguese version: Cruz, 2009; Vilar et al., 2010), and the Sexual Health Questionnaire. The results indicate the importance of sociodemographic data, sexual behaviors and psychological factors in the valorization of sexuality in old age.
