The goal of the present investigation was to study the influence of Morningness / Eveningness (diurnal type) and the Time of Day on the Emotional States of adolescents. Thus, in a first moment, 190 students (46.3 % feminine gender and 53.7% male gender) of 8th grade (12-16 years-old) answered to a protocol which included a Composite Scale of Morningness (CSM), Basic Scale on Insomnia Symptoms and Quality of Sleep – “plus” version (BaSIQS +), Self-administered Rating Scale for Pubertal Development (SSPD), Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-Por). A week after, they answer another protocol which evaluated their Emotional States through the Faces Scale, State-Anxiety Scale of STAIC - Inventory for Children, and Positive and Negative Affect Scale for Children (EAPNC) during two periods of the school day (8h:30m and 16h:30m). The results revealed that the interaction effect between Diurnal Day and Time of Day was not significant in any of the emotional scales. On the other hand, the main effect of the Moment of the Day reached statistical significance in all scales, except for the Negative Affect Scale of EAPNC, showing to influence the Emotional State of the sample: from morning to afternoon, both positive affect and Positive Emotional state rose, while state anxiety dropped. Finally, the main effect of the Diurnal Type reached statistical significance only for the Positive Affect Scale of EAPNC, with the Morning-types revealing higher positive affect than the Evening-types.
