The general purpose of the present work is to study the experience of Brazilian women in the context of immigration in Portugal, specifically in the municipality of Coimbra, in the perspective of gender inequalities. The following aspects of the experience of female migrants will be characterized and analyzed: life trajectories, changes in the family’s routine in terms of financial management and division of domestic tasks, the influence of female financial (in)dependence in the division of tasks between husband and wife, leisure options and, finally, the gender patterns of couples' expenses. The study uses a qualitative methodology, through individual interviews with 10 women, who were selected through the snowball method. The first of them was selected in a specific group on the social media of Brazilian mothers in Coimbra. The sample is composed of women who live with their male partners and have at least one financially dependent child. After the transcription of the interviews, a content analysis was carried out. Patterns of gender roles were identified among couples, as most women are responsible for managing and carrying out most of the domestic tasks and, in all cases, women are more responsible for the care of the children than their husbands. This pattern of education and care with the children was also identified among the women’s parents, in the childhood of the interviewees. The domestic routine became more heavy and more gender unequal for women in the context of immigration. A gender pattern was also found in the expenses of the couples, as in couples sharing expenses, men tend to pay the rent while women are in charge of expenses directly related to the children. Regarding leisure, there is a greater role for women than for men, both in the frequency with which they meet their friends and in the decision to travel and family outings. However, we could not find a clear relation between the woman's income and the division of tasks and female power of decision. Still, the type of financial management used by the couples has changed in most situations due to emigration.eng
