The present research has as its main objective to understand how certain sociodemographic and family variables as well as marital adjustment can influence the perceptions of coparenting, in families with school-age children. Based on these premises, an empirical study was conducted with the participation of 177 Portuguese mothers, aged between 25 and 55 years old (M = 39.05, SD = 5.49) that belong to intact nuclear families or to single parent families. The data were collected through the inquiry method, in online or paper format, and followed a sample selection process for convenience using the snowball method. Attending the theme of our investigation, we chose to analyze three of the six instruments that constituted the initial protocol: the Sociodemographic, Questionnaire or Family and Complementary Data, the Coparenting Questionnaire - QC (Pedro & Ribeiro, 2008) and the Mutual Adjustment Scale - DAS (Lourenço & Relvas, 2003). Based on the three multiple regression models performed, it is possible to affirm that, in intact nuclear families, some dimensions of marital adjustment are good predictors of coparenting. Given the lack of literature on the influence of some variables on coparenting, the current study aims to motivate new readings and interventions in this area, that could drive the need for future investigations to analyze, for example, coparenting from the point of view of the father-man.The present research has as its main objective to understand how certain sociodemographic and family variables as well as marital adjustment can influence the perceptions of coparenting, in families with school-age children.
