Noise pollution is a very important issue since the exposure to high sound pressure levels can have serious consequences on human health. On what concerns indoor spaces, one way to mitigate this problem is to look for constructive and/or decorative solutions that aim to improve their acoustic performance. There has been an increase on studies regarding the use of natural materials for the purposes of conditioning and acoustic insulation, due to the fact that they have, in many cases, good acoustic properties, they are not harmful to human health and, since they are obtained from renewable resources, the negative impacts on the environment are reduced. In this perspective, the main point of this dissertation was to evaluate, through the use of models, the contribution of materials derived from churra sheep wool, namely Burel fabrics and a wool blanket, for the acoustic performance of building elements and of indoor spaces. To this end, the sound absorption of perforated ceilings was modeled, using the wool blanket as an absorbent material, which were later used in the modeling of an open plan office, which also included some Burel fabrics in its decoration. The sound insulation of construction solutions was also modeled where the wool blanket was applied in the cavity of double walls and in floating floors, which allowed to study its contribution to the airborne and impact sound insulation, respectively. The results obtained in the different modelings allowed to conclude that the use of Burel fabrics is a viable option in terms of acoustic conditioning of indoor spaces. Regarding the wool blanket, it is possible to conclude that, when used in perforated ceilings and in the walls’ cavity, its contribution to sound absorption and airborne sound insulation is very low, possibly due to the low airflow resistivity that this one presents. However, when used on floating floors, very good results are achieved for the impact sound insulation, since it has low dynamic stiffness.eng
