Architecture is a discipline with possible transversalities with mathematics, arts, technology, but also with social and political sciences, philosophy and evidently to history. On the other hand, fashion can be seen as a sociocultural phenomenon which follows the course of time in the form of clothing. At first, architecture and fashion appear to have little in common. However, they commune in a vast field that ranges from the shelter of the body to the lines and textures of a final product. This dissertation addresses several spaces where these disciplines interact - the fashion spaces - spaces of creation, exposition and commercialization, of which ateliers, catwalks and shops are some of the examples. The importance here is to explore the relationship between architecture and fashion brands and how they share the same space. In this line of thought it is also relevant to understand the relationships of the body with space and the phenomenological issues intrinsic to these relationships. As a case study, the national fashion event, Portugal Fashion, more specifically the place where the first shows of national creators take place, the BLOOM space, was identified. Its experimental nature causes it to move away from the traditional catwalk, giving way to an informal and flexible environment, which allows various approaches. Reflecting on its morphology, its components and the body movements, the intention is to understand how space is transformed season to season, consistently creating distinct environments. |
