A tradução especializada. Um ensaio de tradução especializada na área da Egiptologia.

Abstract

No mundo da tradução, podemos enveredar por diferentes tipos de especialização, traduzindo, por conseguinte, diferentes tipos de textos de áreas muito díspares. Partindo da obra de Françoise Dunand e de Christiane Zivie-Coche, intitulada Dieux et hommes en Egypte 3000 av. J.-C. 395 apr. J.-C, de 1991, desenvolvemos um ensaio de tradução especializada na área da Egiptologia. Para especificarmos a área em causa, fazemos um trabalho de base aprofundado para que todas as escolhas feitas ao longo do processo de tradução, sejam elas de natureza linguística (neste caso da língua de partida, o francês, e a da língua de chegada, o português) ou de natureza específica (da área da Egiptologia, maioritariamente, mas também de áreas como a Arqueologia e a Religião), possam ser as mais ajustadas possível do ponto de vista científico. Este ensaio de tradução visa respeitar as línguas de trabalho e a cientificidade de uma obra de referência no estudo da religião egípcia. A opção pelas perspetivas de Vinay e Darbelnet, de Vermeer e Reiss, de Christiane Nord e de Venuti visa encontrar as soluções tradutivas mais adequadas à obra em questão e aos desafios que antevemos. A abordagem teórica que precede o trabalho teórico-prático fornece, também ela, uma contextualização da obra e das Autoras, das áreas na qual a obra se insere, bem como da terminologia que servirá de antevisão para os assuntos tratados no excerto a traduzir. Neste sentido, a tradução propriamente dita conta com o auxílio de todo este trabalho prévio que culminará num capítulo de comentários à nossa própria tradução que constituem, a nosso ver, o essencial deste trabalho. Em suma, pensar a tradução na área da Egiptologia tendo para tal argumentos e justificações sólidas e pensadas parece-nos ser o objetivo maior deste projeto.

In the translation world we can choose from different types of specialised texts, translating, therefore, different types of texts from a variety of genres. Employing the work of Françoise Dunand and Christiane Zivie-Coche, entitled Dieux et hommes en Egypte 3000 av. J.-C. 395 apr. J.-C, from 1991, we developed a specialised translation exercise on Egyptology. Due to the highly specialised nature of the translation, we have to complete thorough groundwork to ensure that all of our choices during the translation process, whether it be of a linguistic nature (in this case the source language, the French, and the target language, the Portuguese), or of a specific nature (mainly Egyptology but also Archaeology and Religion), are the most applicable. Our goal is to produce a translation that respects the working languages as well as the scientific nature of the reference work on Egyptian religion. The selected perspectives from Vinay and Darbelnet, Vermeer and Reiss, Christiane Nord, and Venuti will help us to find our translation choices to ensure they are adequate to this specific work and to the challenges that we foresee. Considering the specialised nature of the genre, we have contextualised the work and its authors, the sources in which the works originate from, as well as the terminology which will serve as a preview of the subjects that are to be dealt with in the translation text. The translation will therefore be sustained by the preliminary work that will culminate in a chapter dedicated to the commentaries to our translation which are, in our opinion, the core of this project. All in all, the principal goal of this project is to reflect upon the translation on Egyptology whilst using solid and thoughtful arguments and justifications.
