Os problemas tradutivos de um RCM: uma perspetiva funcionalista

Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio, redigido no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução, resulta da realização de um estágio curricular numa empresa de consultoria farmacêutica. Nesse sentido, este relatório aborda questões relacionadas com as tarefas desenvolvidas durante o estágio, nomeadamente questões de tradução científica e técnica em geral e, em particular, de tradução médica, através de uma perspetiva funcionalista.Este relatório tem como principal objetivo analisar os problemas de tradução que surgem frequentemente num género textual que é o RCM (Resumo das Características do Medicamento), com base no modelo funcionalista de Christiane Nord. Os problemas tradutivos que serão apresentados neste relatório dizem respeito àqueles que mais estiveram presentes na tradução destes documentos durante o estágio. Além disso, o estudo desses problemas, classificados de acordo com o pensamento proposto por Nord, ajudará a esclarecer algumas questões relacionadas com a adequação do modelo funcionalista no contexto da tradução médica.O presente relatório divide-se em 4 capítulos: o primeiro é dedicado à descrição e reflexão dos moldes em que decorreu o estágio curricular; o segundo a uma breve contextualização teórica e metodológica do enquadramento da tradução médica, da caracterização do género de texto em causa (o RCM) e da abordagem funcionalista; o terceiro ao estudo dos problemas de tradução que considero mais relevantes num RCM; e o quarto capítulo, por fim, à enumeração das conclusões retiradas da análise feita de todos estes pontos que seguem uma linha de pensamento.Este relatório de estágio procura contribuir para o estudo da tradução médica e procura, também, analisar a importância deste tipo de tradução no contexto da teoria funcionalista.

This internship report, written in fulfillment of the requirements of the Master’s Programme in Translation, is the result of the accomplishment of a curricular internship in a pharmaceutical consulting company. Seen in these terms, this report addresses aspects related to the tasks carried out during the internship, namely scientific and technical translation issues in general and medical translation issues in particular, through a functionalist perspective.The main objective of this report is to analyse translation problems that often arise in a type of text type which is the SmPC (Summary of Product Characteristics), according to Christiane Nord’s functionalist model. The translation problems that will be presented in this report are those which were most present in translating these documents during the internship. In addition, the study of these problems, classified according to the reflection proposed by Nord, will help to clarify some questions related to the adequacy of the functionalist model in the context of medical translation.This report is divided into four chapters: the first is dedicated to the description and reflection of the way in which the curricular internship has taken place; the second to a brief theoretical and methodological overview of the medical translation framework, description of the type of text concerned (the SmPC) and of the functionalist approach; the third to the study of the translation problems that I consider most relevant in an SmPC; and the fourth chapter, lastly, to the listing of the conclusions drawn from the analysis of all these points which follow a line of thought.This internship report seeks to contribute to the study of medical translation and to analyse the importance of this type of translation in the context of the functionalist theory.
