Abstract: Monography: Traumatic brain injury is associated with a high rate of disability and mortality worldwide and, therefore, stands out as a public health problem that urgently needs solutions. The type of injury varies according to the severity of the injury, which depends on the external force that originates the primary injury and the place where it is exercised. From a primary lesion, other lesions develop, defined as secondary lesions, which are associated with complex pathophysiological mechanisms that together can lead to serious brain damage that can become irreversible.Among these pathophysiological mechanisms, oxidative damage due to the accumulation of free radicals, triggered by the excitotoxicity of glutamate, which develops after injury, stands out.Traumatic brain injury, although already somewhat demystified, remains quite complex, so new studies continue to be carried out with a view to accurately clarifying the pathophysiology of this type of injury and, essentially, in order to discover new really effective therapies.Antioxidant therapy appears as a promising therapy, capable of neutralizing the free radicals released after injury and, therefore, preventing various brain damage.Report: The role of the pharmacist has evolved in the eyes of society, particularly in the community pharmacy, which often presents itself as the first choice with regard to obtaining a professional opinion for questions or health care.In this way, the functions of the community pharmacist go far beyond “dispensing medicines” or “filling prescriptions”. As a public health promoting agent, the community pharmacist has responsibility for counseling in several areas, for promoting adherence to therapy, for pharmacotherapeutic accompaniment and for the rational use of the medication, always taking into account professional ethics and deontology.
