Abstract

Health Systems face common challenges worldwide, as a result of the economic crisis or the evolution of society, such as an aging population, increased demand for health care, budgetary limits and growing interest in new treatments and new technologies. [1] The pharmacist is often the citizen's first contact with the health system, being pharmaceutical services crucial to ensure sustainable and accessible health care for all, thus revealing social value. [1] The exercise of the pharmaceutical profession, in the different areas in which it intervenes, from the industry to the community pharmacy, has evolved from the role of medicine dispenser to the role of medicine specialist, actively participating in a multidisciplinary health care team, assuming collaboration between the pharmacist, the doctor and the patient, ensuring that the patient is provided with safe, effective and rational medicines. [2] The medicine, apart from the technical and scientific environment, unfolds into political, commercial and social aspects, [3] the latter being the object of study in this work. Throughout this work, the social value of the pharmacist and the medicine will be revealed, exploring the social benefits of the pharmaceutical intervention, current and to be implemented in the future, as well as presented some pharmacotherapeutic groups whose social value is clearly shown, such as vaccines or antibiotics. I am still presenting the medication as a link in the health professional - patient relationship.

Os Sistemas de Saúde enfrentam, a nível mundial, desafios comuns, fruto da crise económica ou da evolução da sociedade, como o envelhecimento da população, aumento da procura de cuidados de saúde, limites orçamentais e interesse crescente por novos tratamentos e novas tecnologias.[1] O farmacêutico é, frequentemente, o primeiro contacto do cidadão com o sistema de saúde, tornando-se os serviços farmacêuticos fulcrais na garantia de cuidados de saúde sustentáveis e acessíveis para todos, revelando valor social. [1] O exercício da profissão farmacêutica, nas diversas áreas em que intervém, desde a indústria à farmácia comunitária, evoluiu no sentido do papel de dispensador de medicamentos para o papel de especialista do medicamento, participando ativamente numa equipa multidisciplinar de assistência à saúde, pressupondo colaboração entre o farmacêutico, o médico e o doente, garantindo que, ao último, são cedidos medicamentos seguros e eficazes, administrados de forma racional. [2] O medicamento, à parte da envolvência técnica e científica, desdobra-se nas vertentes política, comercial e social,[3] sendo esta última objeto de estudo neste trabalho. Ao longo deste trabalho será revelado o valor social do farmacêutico e do medicamento, explorando os benefícios socias da intervenção farmacêutica, atual e a implementar no futuro, bem como apresentados alguns grupos farmacoterapêutico cujo valor social está manifestamente transparecido, como o caso das vacinas ou dos antibióticos. Irei apresentar ainda o medicamento como elo na relação profissional de saúde – doente.
