| pt |
dc.description.abstract | The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus, often present in humans and depending on the subtype of HPV, it has the ability to cause a wide range of diseases with variable morbidity and mortality and therefore constitutes a significant social burden. It is widely discussed in females, more properly as the main cause of cervical cancer (CC). However, this virus also affects men and is an issue increasingly present and current, though not much discussed, which led to the expansion and increasing interest. The HPV is a silent virus, which does not present in the vast majority signs or symptoms that lead to medical consultation, this being one of the strongest motives that leads science to further explore this virus in an attempt to find effective therapies and to eradicate the viruses from the human body. The future prospects are promising and highly immunogenic vaccines that can treat HPV infection are expected. Our present time is faced with preventive vaccines already in place, that have been generating some discussion and disagreement regarding the cost-effectiveness of universal vaccination (in both sexes), and some research groups defend and explain the preventive vaccines clear benefit of universal vaccination and others reveal disagree, supporting the idea that if the female population is vaccinated in initially idealized proportions, the costeffectiveness would be much more favorable. | pt |
