Da Mobilidade Estudantil à Internacionalização das Universidades

Abstract

Este trabalho reflete o estágio curricular realizado na Divisão de Relações Internacionais da Universidade de Coimbra, entre outubro de 2018 e março de 2019. Por um lado, o estudo fornece uma compreensão alargada da mobilidade estudantil, resultante de um processo de internacionalização do conhecimento e do desenvolvimento de relações de cooperação entre países e universidades. Por outro lado, aborda as estratégias de internacionalização do ensino superior em Portugal e no Brasil de forma a compreender o aumento da presença de estudantes brasileiros na Universidade de Coimbra. Através da realização de entrevistas analisámos as suas experiências interculturais e os vários motivos para a escolha da Universidade. Os resultados obtidos da análise revelam um tipo de mobilidade com motivações culturais e sociais interligadas às motivações académicas.Coimbra apresenta condições que facilitam o acolhimento, a permanência e a mobilidade de estudantes internacionais. Por sua vez, a cooperação bilateral e multilateral estabelecida com diversos países, instituições e organizações internacionais, através de acordos, exerce um papel determinante para a receção dos estudantes internacionais.Pretende-se despertar o interesse pela reflexão do processo de acompanhamento dos estudantes internacionais, destacando o quadro de internacionalização do Ensino Superior na Universidade de Coimbra. Sublinha-se o papel da universidade nesse processo através de práticas de orientação e apoio. A mobilidade estudantil é um fator extremamente decisivo para a qualidade da internacionalização do Ensino Superior sendo reconhecida como um instrumento de enorme valor para o reforço da competitividade e atratividade das Instituições de Ensino Superior bem como para o desenvolvimento económico regional.

This study reflects the curriculum internship held at the International Relations Division of the University of Coimbra between October 2018 and March 2019. On the one hand, the study provides a broad understanding of student mobility resulting from the internationalization of knowledge and the development of relations and cooperation between countries and universities. On the other hand, it approaches the strategies of internationalization of higher education in Portugal and Brazil in order to understand the increase of the presence of Brazilian students in the University of Coimbra. Through interviews we have analyzed their intercultural experiences and the various reasons for choosing the University. The results obtained from the analysis reveal a type of mobility with cultural and social motivations intertwined with academic motivations.Coimbra presents conditions that facilitate the reception, permanence and mobility of the international students. Furthermore, bilateral and multilateral cooperation with various countries, institutions and international organizations, through agreements, plays a determining role in the reception of international students.It is intended to raise interest in the reflection of the process of accompaniment of international students, highlighting the internationalization framework of Higher Education at the University of Coimbra. The role of the university in this process is emphasized through guidance and support practices. Student mobility is an extremely decisive factor for the quality of the internationalization of Higher Education being recognized as an instrument of enormous value for strengthening the competitiveness and attractiveness of Higher Education Institutions as well as for the regional economic development.
