O arquivo de Marie-Louise Bastin: estudo científico e proposta de divulgação

Abstract

A investigação sobre arquivos pessoais é uma temática de particular interesse em Arquivística, que hoje se configura como um dos ramos ou disciplinas aplicadas da Ciência da Informação.Este trabalho tem como objetivo dar a conhecer o estudo científico do arquivo pessoal de Marie-Louise Bastin (1918-2000), reflexo da investigação desenvolvida, ao longo de mais de três décadas, nos domínios da História da Arte, Antropologia e Etnologia. Sendo o arquivo um dos componentes do seu Sistema de Informação (SI), constituído também pela biblioteca e pela coleção etnográfica, pretende-se, especificamente, contribuir para a sua divulgação na comunidade.A prossecução do objetivo enunciado concretiza-se através de uma metodologia qualitativa, assente na revisão da literatura e num estudo de caso. Da análise comparativa dos pressupostos teóricos e da sua aplicação ao estudo de caso eleito conclui-se que a abordagem orgânico-funcional é a que melhor permite apreender as dinâmicas de um arquivo pessoal.Assente no estudo biográfico da produtora, associado ao recenseamento da documentação e consequente análise de conteúdo, foi possível concretizar a organização intelectual (classificação) e representação normalizada (descrição ao nível do fundo e da série) da informação, bem como aferir que o componente arquivo do SI de Marie-Louise Bastin é o reflexo da sua atividade enquanto historiadora da arte e investigadora da cultura Cokwe. Conclui-se que este arquivo pessoal é indissociável das funções exercidas pela sua produtora, independentemente do seu suporte. Reconhece-se como fundamental a adoção da noção operatória de sistema que, em Ciência da Informação, permite concretizar a organização e representação deste SI, combinando os enfoques arquivístico, biblioteconómico e museológico, com vista à comunicação sistémica da informação preservada.

The investigation regarding personal archives is a particularly interesting theme in Archival Science, that is today configured as one of the branches or applied disciplines of Information Science.This work’s purpose is to poster the scientific study of Marie Louise Bastin’s (1918-2000) personal archive, a reflexion of the investigation developed, over more than 30 years, in the matters of Art History, Anthropology and Ethnology. Being the archive one of the components of her Information System (IS), constituted also by her library and ethnographic collection, it is intended to, specifically, contribute to its divulgation in the community.The pursuit of the present goal is materialised through a qualitative methodology, based on literature review and a case study. Of the comparative analysis of the theoretical assumptions and its application to the selected case study, one concludes that the organic-functional approach is the one that allows to better apprehend the dynamics of a personal archive. Based on the producer’s biographical study, associated with the documentation’s census and consequent content analysis, it was possible to realize the intellectual organization (classification) and standard representation (description at the fund and series level) of the information, as well as assess that the archive component of Marie Louise Bastin’s IS is the reflexion of her activity as an art historian and Cokwe culture investigator.One concludes that this personal archive is inseparable of the functions performed by its producer, regardless of the type of material that holds the information.One acknowledges as fundamental the adoption of the operative notion of system that, in Information Science, allows to materialize this IS’s organization and representation, combining the archival, library and museological approaches, intending the systemic communication of the preserved information.
