Background: the healthy growth of a child is conditioned by the characteristics of family and social environment where he or she is inserted. Knowing and evaluating the influences of the characteristics of the family nucleus and the sociodemographic context is particularly important, especially when the scientific evidence shows that unfavorable environments are more often associated with a higher prevalence of conditions such as overweight and childhood obesity.Aim: to study weight height progression in the historical cohort of those born in 2007 and followed up to 2017, every 5 years, according to the Graffar family socioeconomic classification. Methods: data on gender, weight and height and family socioeconomic classification (Graffar) were provided by the computer services of Center Regional Health Administration. The study was based on a sample of 243 individuals representative of the population of 14 786 children born in the 2007 in the geographical area of influence of the institution mentioned above, and who presented data of weight, height and classification of Graffar to the date of birth. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS®, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, program using the chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests and defining a statistically significant value for p<0.03.Results: in the sample there are 124 female subjects (51%). The differences found in the variables weight and height according to Graffar classification did not present statistical significance. For the same variables, there were significant differences according to the primary care units (ACeS), in the registry in 2007 (p=0.008) and in the variation from 2007 to 2012 (p=0.003). The distribution of the Graffar classes according to the ACeS also showed differences with statistical significance (p=0.002).Discussion and conclusions: households in the central region are mainly classified as Graffar Average class, with the highest classes being located predominantly on the coast. As the Graffar score improves the mean, Body Mass Index (BMI) at birth is higher for lower classes while the evolution over time is higher for the higher classes. Coastal ACEs have a mean BMI at the lower birth and a higher variance relative to the ACeS from the interior.eng
