Plastic materials nowadays are present in practically everything that surrounds us, from packaging, to health, cars, among others. In this way, dependence on their use precludes their removal for the time being. Still, growing concern about the impacts caused by these materials puts great pressure on society, and there is a huge desire to find alternatives that are not compromised by the functions requested by them, but that are more “green”. This work was developed aiming at finding “green” solutions for materials. For that fossil-based plastics were substituted by bio-based plastic as of polyacid-lactic (PLA).There are applications where only the PLA matrix does not have good enough mechanical properties. In this way, it is intended to strengthen the polymer with natural fibers (hemp fiber, eucalyptus, pine and fir) in order to obtain a composite fully “green” and biodegradable. In the production of such composites, however, there was the problem of compatibility between the hydrophobic matrix and the hydrophilic fiber.A combination of extrusion and injection moulding was used for the production of the composites. The PLA grafted with maleic anhydride (PLA-g-AM) was used as a compatible agent between the matrix and the fiber, but the results revealed that the use of PLA-g-AM lead to values of tensile strength similar to those of the composite using fibres obtained by thermomechanical process (TMP). Even so, the composites with the best mechanical properties were reinforced with bleached hemp fiber, increasing their resistance by 51.8% relative to the PLA matrix. The thermal properties of the latter were studied using analysis of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermograviometric analysis (TMA), dynamic thermo mechanical analysis (DTMA) and Dilatometry. The introduction of fibre into the matrix hardens the material due to the decrease in matrix mobility and the alteration of crystallinity. It is concluded that fibers are a nucleation agent and that they optimize some properties such as the glass transition temperature (Tg), the storage module and the dilation.Another area that was studied envolved nanocomposites.Nanofibres were produced with three distinct pretreatments, TEMPO-mediated, enzymatic and mechanical oxidation. From the results, TEMPO-oxidized CNFs stood out, due to the substantial increase in viscosity in the homogenisation process compared to other nanofibres, which was confirmed by their characterisation. The CNF’s were characterized by the level of fibrillation yield, cationic demand, carboxyl content, degree of polymerization and transmittance. At the end of the work, a study was conducted on micromechanics using the Hirsch model, the Kelly and Tyson model and the modified mix rule, with positive values for a good interface between bleached hemp fibre and PLA.
