As the urban lifestyle became commonplace, society developed a certain distance to the countryside, and with that, the relation between the forest and the human being is currently weakened. In these last few years, Portugal has been strongly affected by forest fires, 2017 being the year with the highest forest fire rates ever in the country, which resulted in an impressing loss, both material and immaterial. It is essencial to change the common perspective when it relates to the forest, in a way that it’s not looked at only as source of raw materials, but as a space which needs to be preserved. This dissertation, named Virtual Forest Museum, has in view the projection of a platform which has as main objective the approximation of the population to the national forest patrimony. It was then developed a prototype of a platform to achieve that goal, a mobile app that will sound guide population when they visit forest. This app intends to be a bridge between the individual/human being and the environment forest heritage. The sound guide will have an informative character to be able to transmit historical and biological facts to all forest visitors. So the user will have the opportunity to experience the forest in an active way and not a passive way as commonly happens. The visitor will be able to explore all points of interest pointed out on the map and discover more about each one of them.Through Design process, Museu Virtual da Floresta wants to assume its part on the portuguese population lifestyle and conscience change to create a stronger connection to the portuguese natural heritage.eng
