A relação entre os Estilos Educativos Parentais e o uso de Substâncias Psicoativas e Desempenho Académico

Abstract

Se a família é o contexto social chave que proporciona as condições necessárias para o desenvolvimento normativo dos sujeitos, por outro lado também pode ser a principal causa de um desenvolvimento atípico. Os estilos educativos parentais têm vindo a ser alvo de diversas investigações onde foi comprovada a sua importância para o desenvolvimento emocional, cognitivo e social das crianças. Para além desta, outra temática que tem vindo a ser alvo de investigações e tem suscitado preocupação relativamente às suas consequências é o consumo de substâncias psicoativas, cada vez mais presente na vida dos jovens. Neste seguimento, a presente investigação tem como objetivo primordial aliar estas duas variáveis de modo a verificar se existe uma relação entre o papel desempenhado pelas figuras parentais e o consumo de substâncias psicoativas. O desempenho académico é outro fator extremamente presente na vida dos jovens, sendo influenciado não só pelas caraterísticas individuais, mas também pelo contexto que os envolve ao longo da vida e diariamente, nomeadamente o contexto familiar. A presente investigação foi realizada através de uma amostra constituída por 243 individuos, rapazes e raparigas, com idades compreendidas entre os 15 e os 25 anos. Os resultados obtidos perante as análises efetuadas não revelaram valores estatisticamente significativos relativamente á relação entre os estilos educativos parentais e o consumo de substâncias. Por outro lado, nas hipóteses testadas relativamente às variáveis sociodemográficas verificaram-se resultados significativos que permitem observar diferenças nomeadamente ao nível do género e nível socioeconimico. No que se refere ao desempenho académico os resultados permitem afirmar que o consumo de substâncias ilícitas estabelece de facto uma influência no mesmo, contudo, quando relacionado com os estilos educativos parentais os resultados não foram significativos. Por fim, ao serem relacionadas as variáveis relativas á satisfação com a vida e bem estar subjetivo os resultados aprenas foram significativos na relação entre o consumo de substâncias ilícitas e o fator depressão.

If the family is the key social context that provides the conditions necessary for the normative development of the subjects, on the other hand, it may also be the main cause of atypical development. Parenting styles have been subject to various investigations where their importance for the emotional, cognitive and social development of children has been proven. Another subject which has been subject to research and has raised concern about their consequences is the use of psychoactive substances, present very early in young people's lives. In this context, the main objective of this research is to combine these two variables and check if there is a relation between the role of parents and substance use.Academic performance is another highly present factor in young people's lives, being influenced not only by individual caraters, but also by the context that involves them throughout life and daily, particularly the family context. This research was carried out through a sample consisting of 243 individuals, boys and girls, aged between 15 and 25.The results of the analysis were not statistically significant for the relationship between parenting styles and substance use. On the other hand, when demographic variables were tested there was significant results that allow us to see differences, namely gender and socioeconomic level. With regard to academic performance the results allow to affirm that there is an influence established between illegal substance use. However, when related to parental styles the results were not significant. Finally, when the variables were related to life satisfaction and subjective well-being the results were significant only in the relationship between the ilicit substance use and depression.
