Narrativas dos protagonistas sobre aspetos do seu desenvolvimento pessoal e familiar – Um estudo exploratório junto de ex-combatentes da Guerra Colonial Portuguesa

Abstract

The present study intends to understand how the Portuguese Colonial War affected, directly and indirectly, ex-combatants and their family nucleus, as well as their development. This way, ten life histories of ten ex-combatants of the Portuguese Colonial War were analyzed through a qualitative methodology, inspired by the Grounded Theory, paying attention not only to the narratives of the participants, but also to the context of their participation, the possibility of bringing photographs or other memory support elements into the conversation, for example. This research aims at analyzing the perceptions, representations and meanings attributed by the subjects regarding the War and how this affected the life of each of these men. The narratives of the ex-combatants were collected through interviews and analyzed according to the contente analysis techniques. The results of the analysis show the existence of eight groups of categories: "Theft of Youth", "Resignation", "Family Separation", "Death", "Fear", "Changing Ex-combatants", “Family Wear”, “The Lost Time" that originated three major groups "Lost Youth" ("Theft of Youth" and "Resignation"), "Aftermath of War" ("Family Separation", "Death" and "Fear") and "Postwar Reintegration" ("Changing Ex-combatants", “Family Wear” and “The Lost Time"). The core category that covers all the mentioned above is “Silenced Identity”.It was concluded that, although these men were survivors of this war, it was clear that they still feel difficulties to talk about what happened, especially with their family, being proved the importance of mourning in order to overcome more easily a grievous death, since the opposite has caused a departure from the family, resulting in conflict within the family, such as in the marital system and between parents and children, since the family life of these men as they look at it may not truly correspond to the way their social networks or even their family group experience it. Some of the interviewees revealed they still have small sequels like being agitated with loud noises or dreaming about what happened there. It is believed that this research offers useful conclusions for possible future studies.

O presente estudo pretende compreender como a Guerra Colonial Portuguesa afetou, direta e indiretamente, os ex-combatentes e o seu núcleo familiar, bem como o seu desenvolvimento. Desta forma, foram analisadas dez histórias de vida de dez ex-combatentes da Guerra Colonial Portuguesa através de uma metodologia qualitativa, inspirada na Grounded Theory procurando prestar atenção não só às narrativas dos participantes, mas também ao contexto da sua participação, à possibilidade de trazerem para a conversa fotografias ou outros elementos de apoio à memória, por exemplo. Esta investigação visa analisar as perceções, representações e significados atribuídos pelos sujeitos relativamente à Guerra e como esta afetou a vida de cada um destes homens. As narrativas dos ex-combatentes foram recolhidas através de entrevistas e analisadas de acordo com as técnicas de análise de conteúdo.Os resultados da análise mostram a existência de oito grupos de categorias: “Roubo da Mocidade”, “Resignação”, “Separação Familiar”, “Morte”, “Medo”, “Mudança dos Ex-combatentes”, “Desgaste Familiar” e “O Tempo Perdido” que originaram três grandes grupos “Juventude Perdida” (“Roubo da Mocidade” e “Resignação”), “Consequências da Guerra” (“Separação Familiar”, “Morte” e “Medo”) e “Reintegração pós-guerra” (“Mudança dos Ex-combatentes”, “Desgaste Familiar” e “O Tempo Perdido”). A categoria principal que abrange todas as já mencionadas é “Identidade Silenciada”.Concluiu-se que, apesar destes homens serem uns sobreviventes desta guerra, ficou claro que ainda sentem dificuldades em falar sobre o sucedido, principalmente com as pessoas mais próximas, a família, ficando comprovada a importância que pode ser realizar um bom luto para assim superar mais facilmente uma pesarosa morte, pois o contrário originou um afastamento da família, tendo resultado, em alguns casos, em conflito nesse seio familiar, como por exemplo no sistema conjugal e entre pais e filhos, uma vez que a vida familiar destes homens como eles a olham pode não corresponder verdadeiramente ao modo com as suas redes sociais ou mesmo a constituição do grupo familiar a experimentam. Alguns dos entrevistados revelaram ainda terem pequenas sequelas como ficarem agitados com barulhos mais altos ou sonhar ainda com o que lá se passou. Crê-se que esta investigação oferece reflexões úteis para possíveis futuros estudos.
