This dissertation aims for an understanding on how the touristic creativity has emerged, its evolution and influence nowadays. To that end a contextualization will be made regarding some touristic models which are currently considered at crisis, such as those of cultural, and sun and beach tourisms. Being a relatively recent concept, the creative tourism is regarded as a way to distance oneself from the idea of massification and promote personalized products that meet the tourist and his contact with the community he is in. Moreover, when its characteristics are studied, we find not only opportunities to it but also resistances, a lot due to its embryonic character, at least when compared with other types of tourism already consolidated. After presenting some international examples, a more detailed investigation will be made on the southernmost region of Portugal - Algarve. Despite being a country that relies extensively on tourism, since it possesses qualities/attributes to do so, the seasonality issue is of great concern in territories aforementioned. Therefore, it is believed that the creative tourism could be the key to diminish that predicament, based on the use of Loulé as the case investigation’s case study of the different potentialities of the county, from its coast to its mountains. Thus, it will be analyzed the measures that have already been implemented to change that situation, and, furthermore, what new strategies could be applied in order to head towards the direction of a more innovative, creative and equally sustainable future. Therefore, the choice fell on Loulé, one of the Algarve municipalities that most invests in creative tourism, through coast, barrocal or mountain. In the latter case, the aim is to determine how rural areas have been used. Even though they have great potential, they are weakened due to problems such as desertification, ageing and depopulation. Having said that and analyzing in general terms a number of events in the region, we will seek to understand to what extent the region is developing and what consequences it might bring hereafter.
