Alcohol consumption by students is a frequent practice within an academic environment. If that consumption is excessive, it can lead to negative and harmful consequences. In order to avoid these problems students can implement protective strategies. The present study gathered a sample of 164 university students, with a majority of females (79,3%) and being the remaining 20,7/ males, within the ages of 17 and 25 years old.We were able to ascertain significative differences between gender and protective strategies, since women registered a higher usage rate than men. On the contrary, with concern to the negative consequence’s variable, we can observe that males bear a higher brunt than females. With respect to education levels and protective strategies, the only striking documented difference regards to the SLD variable and none is verified with reference to the negative consequences. Lastly, we can also conclude that an increase of protective strategies leads students to have fewer alcohol related problems.Alcohol consumption by students is a frequent practice within an academic environment.
