Nanotecnologias Aplicadas ao Desenvolvimento de Medicamentos - Vantagens e Limitações

Abstract

Os relatórios de estágio, elaborados sob a forma de uma análise SWOT, têm o objetivo de descrever as forças e fraquezas de cada um dos estágios curriculares, de natureza interna ao local de estágio, bem como as oportunidades por eles facultadas e ameaças encontradas no seu decurso, de natureza externa. O tempo passado na Farmácia São Miguel proporcionou a aquisição de experiência profissional na dispensa de medicamentos e no contacto com o público, bem como a desmistificação de alguns conceitos errados sobre esta atividade. O estágio na Plural forneceu-me conhecimento sobre as funções de um distribuidor grossista de medicamentos e um entendimento mais claro do processo pelo qual os produtos vendidos numa farmácia chegam às mão dos utentes.A monografia pretende detalhar alguns dos modos através dos quais os avanços na nanotecnologia contribuíram para o desenvolvimento de medicamentos, em particular no que se refere ao transporte e libertação de fármacos. Dentro deste tópico, a distinção entre os nanotransportadores bioquímicos dos sistemas nanoeletromecânicos é evidenciada, sendo fornecidos diversos exemplos de ambos. Adicionalmente, aborda também algumas estruturas nanométricas com atividade biológica e, de uma forma breve, sistemas nanoteranósticos. Finalmente, procura apresentar algumas perspetivas de como estes avanços poderão continuar a evoluir no futuro, com base na investigação científica actual. Para tal fim, são expostas várias tecnologias disponíveis com vista à discussão dos seus benefícios, potencial e limitações.

The internship reports, written as a SWOT analysis, have the objective of describing the strengths and weaknesses of each of the curricular internships, internal to the place of internship, as well as the opportunities offered by them and the threats found during its course, external to that same place. The time spent at the São Miguel Pharmacy provided professional experience in the dispensation of drugs and contact with the public, as well as the demythification of some misconceptions regarding this activity. The internship at Plural offered insight into the functions of a wholesale drug distributor and a clearer understanding of the process through which the products sold at a pharmacy arrive at the hands of its clients.The monograph intends to detail some of the methods through which the advances in nanotechnology have contributed to the development of medication, in particular regarding drug delivery. Within this topic, the distinction between biochemical nanocarriers and nanoelectromechanical systems is evidenced, with several examples of both of these being provided. In addition, it also explores a few nanometric structures with biological activity and, in a brief manner, nanotheranostic systems. Finally, it seeks to present some perspectives of how these advances might continue to evolve in the future, based on current scientific investigation. To this end, various technologies are presented for the purpose of the discussion of their benefits, potential and limitations.
