Representações das Pessoas com Deficiência Intelectual e Valores humanos

Abstract

As representações sociais são uma ferramenta bastante estudada que nos permite, de certo modo, compreender a forma como a informação do senso comum se encontra organizada e pautam no estudo como um meio de compreenção para o entendimento que a população tem sobre a deficiência intelectual. Também os valores humanos enquanto determinantes do comportamento humano podem ser úteis na compreenção da marginalização da pessoa com deficiência intelectual. O estudo tem como objetivo contribuir para o esclarecimento das representações sociais da deficiência intelectual e da sua relação com as barreiras e dificuldades que esta enfrenta face à entrada no mercado de trabalho, nomeadamente através da comparação de perfis entre o perfil de um deficiente intelectual e o perfil de alguém bem sucedido profissional e pessoalmente. Ao mesmo tempo que se procura compreender de que forma os valores dos indivíduos se relacionam com as suas atribuições à deficiência intelectual.Através de análises de caráter exploratório, procurou-se compreender através de medidas descritivas as diferenças e semelhanças entre os perfis estudados, realizando posteriormente uma análise fatorial em componentes principais para simplificar os dados e compreender quais os principais fatores associados a cada perfil. Procedeu-se de seguida a uma análise das associações entre os fatores extraídos da análise fatorial e os valores de Schwartz, no sentido de compreender as associações entre ambos. Os resultados apontam para uma imagem de inadequação e imaturidade relacional da pessoa com deficiência intelectual, em suma pouco semelhante à imagem de adequação empreendedora e equilíbrio emocional associada à pessoa com sucesso profissional e pessoal. Adicionalmente os resultados sugerem uma associação positiva entre os valores ligados à abertura à mudança e a autotranscendência com as representações sociais da deficiência intelectual. Os dados sugerem que as representações sociais da deficiência intelectual continuam a pautar pela negatividade e inadequação socioprofissional.

Social representations are a well-studied resource that allow us to understand how the common sense is organized and how it influences the way the population perceives intellectual disability. Human values, as an important determinant of human behavior, can also be useful on understanding the marginalization of the intellectually disabled people. This study aims to clarify the relationship of the social representations of the intellectually disabled people with the obstacles and difficulties created to her inclusion on the job market. More specifically, this study aims to compare the profile of an intellectual disabled person with the profile of a person with a well-succeed professional and personal life. At the same time, it aims to understand how the values of the respondents relate with their own representations on intellectual disability.We used exploratory analyses and descriptive measures to perceive the differences and similarities between the mentioned profiles and a principal components analysis to find the major factors associated with each profile. We then analyze the association between the factors previously extracted and the Schwartz values. Our results suggest a profile of inadequacy and relational immaturity of the intellectually disabled person that contrasts with a profile of enterprise adequacy and emotional balance that characterize the well-succeeded person. The results also suggest a positive association between values of openness to change and self-transcendence with the social representations of the intellectual disability. To sum up, the social representations still seem to be related with negativity and socio-professional inadequacy.
