dc.description.abstract | Dyslexic children with and without family history: a comparative study in the reach of neuropsychologyAbstractDevelopmental dyslexia (DD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder of neurobiological origin (APA, 2013). During embryonic development, genetic mutations may occur, which often lead to cognitive impairment (Liu et al., 2011). Studies have shown that, in the brain of people with dyslexia, the DYXC1, DCDC2 and KIAA0319 gene, for example, disrupted the neuron migration or shortened its movement (Mascheretti et. al., 2017), enhancing hypoactivity in the occipito-temporal, temporo-parietal and inferior frontal cortices which are associated with phonological processing (Im et. al., 2015; Richlan et. al., 2011) and present in all dyslexic children. Thereby, it is intended to compare 76 dyslexic children, with and without dyslexic parents, with the same chronological age and general intellectual quotient, in terms of reading performance, quick naming, phonological awareness and working memory. Thus, we observed that both groups share the same deficits in reading accuracy, phonological processing and working memory, differing only in reading fluency (U = 40.5; p = .014). The presence of a pathogenic family history does not seem to explain the variances between the variables, but familiar contextual influences, such as the literacy environment, including formal and non-formal activities, as well as the commitment of the parents to the development of the reading skills of their children, has explanatory power. | pt |
| pt |
