dc.description.abstract | Community-acquired Infections have been worrying health professionals more and more. Nowadays a huge part of patients who entry emergency room shows symptoms of infectious disease, mainly those related with respiratory, urinary or gastrointestinal tract.A great part of these patients’ treatment is executed based on antibiotic therapy, which solves the infection in a favorable way. The problem is, in the fact, that most of the times, symptoms presented are too generic and easily mistaken with other pathologies. For these reasons, there has been an overuse and, most of the times, unnecessary use of antibiotics, which gives origin to more and more emergent public health problems such as the resistance to some classes of this pharmacological group. Besides this loss of efficiency, the use of antibiotics may be contraindicated, leading to the worsening of the patient’s clinic situation when it is used this way.It is rather important to raise awareness in the population to only resort to the use of this kind of drug after being evaluated by a health professional. In the community chemist’s, the pharmaceutical must promote the correct use of antibiotics, encouraging the patient to accomplish both the length of the treatment and the intervals between the “intakes” indicated by the doctor. The use of antibiotics must be preserved for situations where there is real need to resort to its action, this way the pharmaceutical has a preponderant role in the prevention of many avoidable diseases as he is the first and last contact line with the patient. | eng |
