As Plantas Carnívoras na UC - Coleções, Conservação e Comunicação de Ciência

Abstract

Este trabalho tentou sistematizar a informação presente nos diversos arquivos da Universidade de Coimbra que estivessem relacionados com as plantas carnívoras.Além disto também se apostou numa proposta de conteúdos de um futuro Jardim Pantanoso “Universo Carnívoro” a instalar no Jardim Botânico da Universidade de Coimbra (JBUC).E através de registos de dados históricos de diferentes herbários do país foi possível reconstruir a história passada destas espécies bem como preparar o futuro para se poderem preservar tanto estes recursos históricos como os recursos biológicos.Para tal pretendeu-se produzir ferramentas de comunicação de ciência de modo a poder chegar a diversos grupos alvos e assim melhorar essa mesma comunicação. Alertar para os problemas da biodiversidade perdida, quando apoiada em dados técnico, é meio caminho andado para envolver e consciencializar diferentes mentalidades, verdades e vontades.Ao reavaliarmos o estado das populações, podemos afirmar se as plantas estão ou não ameaçadas e definirmos assim o seu estatuto de conservação e os passos necessários a seguir para as podermos preservar.Muitas espécies estão ameaçadas na natureza, devido a perdas de habitat, causadas pela agricultura, como por exemplo a desflorestação no sudeste asiático, pela poluição e pela colheita de plantas selvagens. É necessário fazer mais pesquisa para se poder avaliar o tamanho dos riscos de extinção, havendo assim necessidade de se dar relevância à conservação ex situ em micro-habitats como turfeiras e outras bolsas de biodiversidade e também possibilitar projetos de investigação e conservação in situ. Neste os jardins botânicos têm um papel fundamental.

This work tried to systematize the information present in the various archives of the University of Coimbra that were related to the carnivorous plants.In addition, we also bet on a proposal of contents of a future Bog Garden "Carnivorous Universe" to be installed in the Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra (JBUC). And through records of historical data from different herbariums of the country it was possible to reconstruct the past history of these species as well as prepare the future to be able to preserve both these historical resources and biological resources. For this purpose, it was intended to produce science communication tools in order to reach different target groups and thus improve this communication. Alerting to the problems of lost biodiversity, which being supported by scientific data, is half way to involve and raise awareness of different mentalities, truths and wills.By reassessing the state of the populations, we can state whether or not the plants are threatened and thus define their conservation status and the necessary steps to follow in order to preserve them.Many species are threatened in the wild due to habitat loss caused by agriculture, such as deforestation in Southeast Asia, pollution, and harvesting of wild plants. More research is needed to assess the size of the extinction risks, so there is a need to give relevance to ex situ conservation in microhabitats such as peat bogs and other biodiversity pockets and also to enable research and conservation projects in situ. In this the botanical gardens have a fundamental role.
