Due to the heat generated during the exothermal reaction occured on the early-ages of maturation of a binder, the increasing temperature inside of concrete mass is responsible for superficial tensions on the material block, called thermal stresses, that can lead to cracking of the block. To prevent these situations, before concreting, numerical models can be developed in order to simulate the self-thermal behavior of the mass. However, creating these models requires the definition of material properties that describe the thermal behavior and the heat generation curve. In this study, we’ve reproduced some experimental tests using numerical models, generated by a commercial finite elements software, in order to obtain an approximation to the values of parameters needed for the numerical simulations of geopolymer and Portland Cement. These evaluations were obtained by sucessive tests on the numerical models created in order to get the parameters values that reproduce the measured experimental temperatures. The results show that the thermal conductivity and the specific heat of geopolymer are equivalent to the Portland Cement’s based materials. However, the heat generation process on the geopolymer occurs faster and with higher heat generation ratios than Portland Cement. This work also intends to verify if the geopolymer based binders can provide an effective alternative to the Portland Cement, therefore it’s made a comparision of results obtained for both binders in order to achieve meaningful conclusions. |
