dc.description.abstract | Introduction: The Radix Entomolaris is defined as an extra root prevalent in mandibular molars, located in Disto-Lingual, smaller than the mesial root and Distobuccal and can be separated from these or partially fused, its etiology is little known, so its presence has clinical implications in endodontic treatment, consequently the exploration, instrumentation and obturation of this channel is a real challenge. The CBCT provides a three-dimensional reconstruction of the tooth becoming essential to the diagnosis of an additional root. Objectives: The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of Radix Entomolaris in a sample of the Portuguese population through the visualization of CBCT.Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in the Dentistry area of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra, where 150 CBCTs was obtained from male and female patients aged 18-80 years. The images obtained by CBCT allow the identification and examination of mandibular molars with a 3D image in which it is possible to analyse axial sections of the teeth in the "Screen-Implant" format in the i-CAT analysis program (Imaging Sciences International. Results: A prevalence of 4.0% of Radix Entomolaris was obtained in a sample of the Portuguese population. Conclusion: The prevalence of the presence of three roots molars is 4.0% in a sample of the Portuguese population, so it early detection, due to the degree of curvature and small length, before endodontic treatment, facilitates the procedure. | eng |
