Coimbra Sul Transformar uma Coimbra à margem Centro de Investigação de Biotecnologia Vegetal

Abstract

A dissertação explora a arquitetura de um equipamento para acolher a investigação científica em biotecnologia, refletido sobre o contexto urbano e paisagístico e sobre o programa funcional. Trata-se de uma proposta para um Centro de Investigação de Biotecnologia que tem como ponto de partida o trabalho realizado na disciplina de Projeto V do Departamento de Arquitetura da Universidade de Coimbra em 2014-15. O trabalho elaborado pelos respetivos alunos, visa urbanizar a zona de Coimbra sul onde estão localizados os Pólos II da Universidade de Coimbra e a várzea do Mondego. O objetivo era o de criar uma cidade partilhada, com equipamentos, acessos e cumprindo com os princípios de, mobilidade urbana, cidade democratizada, "smart city", jogando com dois eixos principais, os Pólos II da Universidade de Coimbra e o corredor ribeirinho sem esquecer a interação entre a cidade e os espaços verdes. Começo por abordar a zona de implementação do plano urbanístico que denominámos de "Coimbra Sul", um plano hipotético com a missão de realizar um debate público, partindo da questão levantada pelo professor João Paulo Cardielos, "A condição urbana de uma Coimbra à margem". Segue uma breve apresentação e contextualização histórica de um dos eixos centrais para a dinamização da proposta de urbanização, os Pólos II da U.C., e análise comparativa com o Pólo I. A reflexão estratégica ajuda a compreender os problemas e as necessidades de ambos os Pólos para delinear o plano urbanístico, que entende o corredor ribeirinho em toda a sua extensão desde o Parque Verde do Mondego, até à várzea que se quer conquistar e tirar do isolamento. Esta hipotética conquista é fundamentada com as propostas dos alunos, nomeadamente a proposta do Centro de Investigação de Biotecnologia Vegetal. É apresentada também uma breve introdução à Biotecnologia, e os casos de estudo nos quais me inspirei e fundamentei para criar o Centro. Finalmente apresento a minha proposta. O Centro de Investigação de Biotecnologia Vegetal, integrado no contexto de um ambiente rural, florestal e agrícola na margem sul do rio Mondego no âmbito deste exercício, "Coimbra Sul". O Centro retrata uma correlação de foro cultural e de investigação. Sendo que o auditório adquire essa competência cultural, proveniente do corpo central onde se realiza a investigação, facultada pela estufa.

The dissertation explores the architecture of an equipment to embrace scientific investigation in Biotechnology thought about the urban and landscape context and about the functional program. Addressing the proposal for a Biotechnology Investigation Center has had its starting point the work made at the discipline of "Projeto V" from the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra in 2014-15. The urbanization plan target Coimbra south where are located the Pólos II of the University of Coimbra and the meadow of the river Mondego. The objective is to create a shared city with, equipment's, accesses following the principles of urban mobility, democratized city, smart city, understanding two main axes, the Pólos II of the University and the river corridor, without forgetting the interaction between the city and the green spaces. I started to approach the implementation area of the urbanistic plan we nominated as "Coimbra Sul" by a hypothetic plan, with the objective of making a public debate. The starting point of this project is on behalf of an idea of Professor João Paulo Cardielos: "The urban condition of a margin Coimbra". In this chapter, I present the proposals for urban mobility and the student's proposals for the roads network, the circuits for the urban transports, the strategy for the green areas and the plan for the riverbanks.Next follows a brief presentation and historical context of one of the central axes to the promotion of the urbanization proposal, the Pólos II of the U.C., comparative analysis with Polo I. The strategic reflection helps us understanding the problems and the needs of the both Pólos, to design an urbanistic plan that understands the river corridor in all the extension: from the Parque Verde to the meadows that we want to conquer and take out of the isolation. This hypothetic conquer is substantiated by the students proposals namely the proposal for the Vegetal Biotech Investigation Center.In the last chapter, I present an introduction about Biotechnology and the study cases in which I inspired myself and founded to create the center. Finally, I present my proposal, the Vegetal Biotech Investigation Center to the University of Coimbra that is an integrational part of the plan for "Coimbra Sul".
