Cuidados paliativos e o uso de opiódes no doente oncológico

Abstract

Apesar do avanço permanente nos métodos da Medicina, nomeadamente na prevenção, detecção e tratamento da doença oncológica, um grande número de pacientes continua a falecer devido a esta patologia e complicações subjacentes. O diagnóstico da doença normalmente tem um impacto marcado no paciente e sua família, sobretudo a nível emocional e psicológico. Um dos problemas associados e, de longe, o mais temido, é a dor, muitas vezes de uma tal intensidade que torna o tempo restante quase insuportável. Os Cuidados Paliativos, cujo objectivo é aliviar o sofrimento, promover um fim de vida digno e o respeito pela essência do ser humano, apresentam um papel preponderante na terapêutica da dor. Uma das abordagens neste contexto é a terapia farmacológica com opióides, método de reconhecida importância e, até à data, insubstituível na dor oncológica moderada a grave.

In spite of the constant advances in the medicine methods, inclusive on the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer, an important number of patients is still dying because of this pathology and its complications. The diagnosis of the disease has usually a big impact on the patient and his family, mainly emotionally and psychologically. One of the associated problems and, by far, the most feared, is pain, frequently so intense that the remaining time the patient has left becomes hardly supportable. The Palliative care, whose objective is to relieve the suffering, to promote a dignified life-ending and the respect about the human being essence, represents a major role in the pain support.
