Title: Padrão alimentar dos estudantes de medicina, como futuro profissionais de saúde

Abstract: Introdução: Sendo os estudantes de Medicina, futuros profissionais de saúde, com um papel fulcral na prevenção de doenças junto das populações, questiona-se se estarão sensibilizados pelos conhecimentos obtidos ao longo do curso a adoptarem hábitos alimentares individuais próximos daqueles considerados saudáveis. Objectivos: Conhecer os hábitos alimentares dos estudantes da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra e se têm noção real desses hábitos; verificar quais as alterações na alimentação após o ingresso na faculdade, ao longo dos anos de curso e por género e avaliar a ingestão média diária de refeições, porções de fruta, vegetais e macronutrientes. Avaliar eventuais patologias concomitantes como Obesidade, Dislipidémia ou Diabetes Mellitus na tentativa de extrapolar uma relação entre os parâmetros recolhidos e o futuro desenvolvimento de doenças. Metodologia: Recorreu-se à aplicação de um inquérito aos alunos do primeiro, terceiro e sexto anos a frequentarem o Mestrado Integrado em Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra, onde foram recolhidos dados demográficos, alimentares, antropométricos e descrita a alimentação de três dias consecutivos com exclusão do fim-de-semana. Fez-se uma análise do padrão alimentar de 199 estudantes com recurso à Tabela da Composição dos Alimentos do Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge, editado em 2006, instalado no serviço de Nutrição e Dietética com link no serviço de Medicina Interna. Caracterizou-se a amostra e recorreu-se ao programa SPSS para avaliação das variáveis. Resultados: A amostra é constituída por 199 alunos. Oitenta e três alunos frequentam o primeiro ano, 61 alunos o terceiro ano e 55 o sexto ano de curso. Cento e cinquenta e um alunos pertencem ao género feminino e 48 ao género masculino. A média de idades é 20,23 anos. Cerca de oitenta por cento dos alunos considera ter uma alimentação saudável. A ingestão média diária de refeições é de 3,48 e 2,98, respectivamente para o género feminino e masculino com p <0,005. Não há diferenças significativas no consumo de fruta e vegetais entre os géneros. O género masculino apresenta um valor de IMC significativamente superior ao género feminino. Há diferenças significativas no número de refeições diárias e consumo de fruta e vegetais entre os alunos dos diferentes anos mas não no valor médio de IMC. Doze alunos têm Hipercolesterolémia, sendo todos do género feminino e metade destes frequentam o 6º ano de curso. Hás apenas um aluno com Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2. Conclusão: Apesar da grande maioria dos alunos considerar a sua alimentação saudável, na verdade têm hábitos alimentares desequilibrados com um baixo consumo diário de refeições, frutas e vegetais e um alto consumo de proteínas, hidratos de carbono, gorduras e colesterol. Uma alimentação deste tipo está associada a um risco de desenvolvimento de doenças crónicas no futuro.
Introduction: As medical students, future health professionals, with a key role in preventing disease among the population, wonders whether they will be sensitized by the knowledge gained throughout the course to adopt individual eating habits similar to those considered healthy. Objectives: To know the dietary habits of students from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra and if they have real perception of these habits, see which the changes in diet after enrolling in college, over the course of years and by gender and to assess the average intake Daily meals, servings of fruit, vegetables and macronutrients. Evaluate possible concomitant disorders such as Obesity, Dyslipidemia or Diabetes Mellitus in an attempt to extrapolate a relationship between the parameters collected and the future development of diseases. Methodology: A questionnaire was applied to students in the first, third and sixth years of the Master in Medicine, University of Coimbra, where data were collected demographic, dietary, anthropometric, and described three consecutive days of alimentation excluding the weekend. There was an analysis of dietary patterns of 199 students using the Food Composition Table of the National Health Institute Dr. Ricardo Jorge, released in 2006, installed in the service of Nutrition and Dietetics with a link in the service of Internal Medicine. Characterized the sample was used SPSS for assessment of variables. Results: The sample consists of 199 students. Eighty-three students attending the first year, 61 students the third year and 55 the sixth year of the course. One hundred and fifty-one students were females and 48 males. The average age is 20.23 years. About eighty percent of students deemed to have a healthy diet. The average daily of meals is 3.48 and 2.98, respectively for females and males with p <0.005. No significant differences in consumption of fruit and vegetables between genders. The males have a BMI value significantly higher than females. There are significant differences in the number of daily meals and fruit and vegetable consumption among students of different years but not in BMI value. Twelve students have Hypercholesterolemia, all female and half of those attending the 6º year of course. There is just a student with diabetes mellitus type 2. Conclusion: Although the great majority of students consider their diet healthy, have unbalanced eating habits with a low intake of daily meals, fruits and vegetables and high intake of protein, carbohydrates, fats and cholesterol. This eating type is associated with a risk of developing chronic diseases in the future.
