The article brings a reflection on the theme “women and war”, based on a case study in the Brazilian female prison system. Those women, victims of institutional, structural and cultural violence under patriarchalism, are also the perpetrators of a cycle of violence that stands out in childhood and youth, involving drug use and trafficking. Against this background, it intends to understand the concept of ‘female prisoners, based on an approach to feminist and postcolonial theory. Specifically, in what way institutional and patriarchal violence is reproduced in prisons, either by ‘prison rules’ or during the application of laws and disciplinary power.
