Title: | Probióticos no tratamento de alergias | Authors: | Bernardino, Marlene Neto | Orientador: | Silva, Gabriela Jorge da | Keywords: | Probióticos; Hipersensibilidade | Issue Date: | Jul-2014 | Place of publication or event: | Coimbra | Abstract: | A incidência de alergias tem vindo a aumentar nos últimos tempos e, embora este
desenvolvimento menos eficaz do sistema imunológico.
A investigação nesta área
The incidence of allergies has risen in the past years and, although this fact may be associated to various factors, the theory of the hygiene hypothesis proposes that the lack of contact with microorganisms in early life is one of the main reasons for a less efficient development of the immune system. Intestinal microbiota that has an effect on the immune system and epithelial function of the intestine, also plays a fundamental role in the body’s defence system and in the prevention and treatment of allergies. Despite the rise in the incidence of allergies, therapies are not evolving, allowing probiotics to appear as possible treatments. Research in this field is increasing and clinical trials have shown good results. These microorganisms act through various mechanisms and have a great impact on the composition of intestinal microbiota and on the development of the immune system, and therefore may affect certain allergic diseases, such as atopic eczema, asthma, rhinitis and food allergies. |
