| pt |
dc.description.abstract | Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that may arise after individual exposure to critical events, being described and codified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders since 1980. This disorder manifests by a symptomatic triad, represented by the symptoms of re-experiencing, avoidance and hyperarousal. Literature shows changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA), as well as alterations in the neurotransmitters norepinephrine (NE), serotonin (5-HT), glutamate (GLU) and -aminobutyric acid (GABA). This monograph discusses the physiopathological changes that have been described in PTSD, as well as some rising pharmacological interventions targeted to treat a disorder that affects familiar, social and occupational levels. | pt |
