Introduction: Academic festivities in the city of Coimbra create a party environment that unites many students of this city’s higher education institutions. These festivities are famous for its substance abuses, made by the participants. Objectives: Evaluate differences on physical performance of the students that participate on these festivities. Methods: The physical performance of each participant was evaluated on two moments: at the week following one of those festivities and at another week, at least one month apart the last festivity. The week before each series of physical tests the participants were given an questionnaire, asking them about the number, quantity and type of alcoholic beverages consumed, the number of daily meals, the daily number of hours of sleep, the daily heart frequency after awakening, and the daily consumpiton of tobacco cigarettes, prescription drugs and psychotropic drugs. The physical tests selected in the evaluation of physical performance were the Luc Léger Test (aerobic performance) and the Running-Based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST) (anaerobic performance). Results: During the festivities there was a statistical significant rise on the ethylic alcohol (p < 0,001), and tobacco (p < 0,05) consumed. The number of daily meals dropped during the festivities, as the number of hours dedicated to physical exercise (p < 0,05). The results obtained by the Luc Léger test did not correlate with the variables studied, with the exception of the number of exercise hours (p < 0,01). The rise of the ethylic alcohol consumption in the festivities correlates with a drop in the results obtained in the RAST (with exception of the Fatigue Index); a drop in the hours of sleep also correlates with a drop in the results obtained in the Trabalho Final de 6º Ano Abuso Estudantil de Substâncias e seus Efeitos na Performance Física RAST, although not in every parameter that test evaluates. The rise of tobacco consumption in the festivities correlates with a rise in the Fatigue Index. Conclusion: We only found statistically significant differences in the anaerobic performance of participants. A higher consumption of alcoholic beverages correlates with a drop in the Work done on the RAST, reflecting a drop on the physical performance. We also found that, in the anaerobic test, tobacco affected detrimentally the rate of decline of the participants’ strength
