Title: | A presença islâmica no Alentejo Litoral.
[EN] Never having achieved any sort of unity, from an administrative standpoint, during the Muslim occupation of Ġarb al-Ândalus, it is beyond any doubt that the Islamic presence has reached up to day in the toponymy of the territory that we nowadays call Alentejo Litoral. From the more familiar names, such as the municipal seats of Alcácer, Cacém and Odemira, to others relatively more obscure, only detectable through a more careful analysis of microtoponymy, there are still traces of an occupation that, from an historical perspective, is evidenced by the presence in the region of the Berber families of the banū Dānis and the banū Qāsim. Therefore, it is our purpose in this paper, based on the analysis of some sources, to observe the Muslim presence in the area through the persistence of some Arabic and Berber-origin toponyms. |
