The massive contribution of writers and intellectuals to the formation of bellicist discourses upon the outbreak of the First World War was a very important element in the radicalization of nationalist dynamics and the corresponding legitimization of the idea of the war. The essay revisits some aspects of the topic with special emphasis on German and Austrian authors, contributing a few thoughts for a reevaluation of the meaning of this process from the point of view of the relationship between culture and violence. |
